G2 Users Settings and Experience

No, I mean slightly different thing.
Set 422 patch.
And try to reduce frame size. And later to increase frame size.

Hi , I am a newbie and beginer. and my english is poor
I tried many times
now my setting is...
M movie mode> check
QUALITY SETTINGS [ 384, 330, 300, 276 ]
TABLE SETTINGS [ 24, 24, 24, 24 ]
AVCHD compression
FD/SH 48000000
VBH 32000000
VBL 32000000
OB 52000000
50 GOP size 13

AVCHD movie mode
PB 234
PB2 234
OB2 52000000

........................................
I tried 422 and 1920*1080 ...it can not

my question is to Set only 422 patch first
what is other condition like above?
then as next step, set to increase frame size to 1920*1080 by Ver. increment?
what is other condition like EQ or ET ?

Please teach me how to set it concretely
sorry my poor english
. thanks

Strange thing have happened, I've just power up my G2, and the movie mode M seems to have disapeared O_O

Just like this *pouf*.

That part sounds strange to me also. Sometimes, I found the rec mode menu missing. A power off power on solves that problem.

First, we need to find patch that causes "Please wait" message during recording start.
The "Please Wait" failure to enter record mode is caused by checking the PAL<->NTSC Menu patch.

I tested the following patches in all combinations:

All Interface Languages
30min limit removal
PAL<->NTSC Menu
Manual Movie Modes

In addition, I checked both Version Increment and Prevent Version Compare for all tests.

All patch combinations that included the PAL<->NTSC Menu patch caused the camera to fail to enter record mode.
All patch combinations that disabled the PAL<->NTSC Menu patch worked properly with no observed errors.

Not for me, the Manual movie mode is definitely gone. Even after re-hack with another alternative firmware, the manual mode don't appear anymore :O

OK.
I'll try to look that can be wrong here.

These settings are currently working perfectly on my USA (NTSC) G2 with the Transcend 16 gig Class 10 card ($25)

Current stable AVCHD settings with in-camera playback:
---------------------------------
Prevent version compare = check

720p60 -> 30fps
Video Bitrate SH = 50000000
Video Bitrate H = 32000000
Video Bitrate L = 22000000
Overall Bitrate = 52000000
720p60 GOP Size = 15 (same as default)
Preset bitrate = 234
Preset bitrate 2 = 234
Overall bitrate 2 = 52000000

Current MJPEG settings: Taken from lpowel 60Mbps settings (no in camera playback, just super high quality:love4:
422 Color = UNCHECKED
---------------------------------

  • MJPEG E1 Quality = 280
  • MJPEG E1 Table = 4
  • MJPEG E2 Quality = 250
  • MJPEG E2 Table = 10
  • MJPEG E3 Quality = 225
  • MJPEG E3 Table = 24
  • MJPEG E4 Quality = 200
  • MJPEG E4 Table = 48
Have recorded in both AVCHD and MJPEG formats and everything is just groovy, zero hiccups and great quality video.

For the AVCHD .mts to ProRes 422 conversion I am using this free MAC utility 5Dtohttp://rarevision.com/5dtorgb/RGB. Works for Canons and Panasonic, we just loose the audio (may be fixed in a later Panasonic version).

I did not have any success with the 422 patch, had banding in lower half of frame as others have stated. Also left size at 1280x720.

On my G2, the manual mode movie activate each time I click the menu button. ;)
Funny but, hey. It Works...

Do you lose the REC mode menu for the still picture thereafter? After the manual movie mode is activated on my G2, I can't find the REC mode menu for still picture.

No, when I power up my G2, and scroll the wheel the manual movie mode disapear. Whereas when I click the menu/set button the manual movie mode surprisely pop-up.
The rec mode do not disappear. But for the still picture I didn't try. Even in P movie mode. I'll try it tomorrow;)

I kept the setting changes as simple as possible to avoid any problems down the road. Turn all the extra goodies off. 422 does not work and 1920x1080 does not work.....just don't change those.

I only maxed out the bitrate as described above and left everything else alone....at default. Hey, it works beautifully and the video looks great in Final Cut Studio and iMovie '11.

If you need higher quality than 720p then get a GH2....I only need 720p for Vimeo and YT. Also, try the 14-140mm lens instead of the kit 14-42mm lens. Sheeeze....$720 to upgrade to the better, no.... MUCH better 14-140mm, and then sell the 14-42mm on Craigslist and email with morons asking for a retail showroom experience with warranty :Drogar-Shock(DBG): for a used lens....sigh. God, what a hassle. People on Seattle CL are so dumb

Today I wish I would have just purchased the GH2 with the 14-140mm lens. Never the less, the G2 w/hack is performing very well and I am quite pleased with the results. For my photography lighting blog, soon to add video lighting, the G2 is providing me with stellar Vimeo results.

Also, the still portion of the camera is no slouch. With CaptureOne 6 Pro the raw files look amazing, almost as good as my new Nikon 7000. I say almost.....as in 90%...no 80% as good.

Panasonic did many good things with this $550 camera......it is what it is for the price.

I will post some videos done with the hacked G2 when they are finished shooting end of next week. We have a fairly large shoot in the works and will be shooting the moving scenes with the G2 and the non-moving tripod mounted scenes with the Canon D5MK2.....we need autofocus, LOL.

Cheers folks......T

These MJPEG settings were obtained from my 60Mbps MJPEG Class 6 SD Card Patch. Please do not reprint them without crediting or linking to the source. I've provided detailed information on this patch at the link in my signature.

Yes this MJPEG is the originally optained from lpowell stable 60mbit setting they are great thx.
any luck with 422 for G2 :)

What is with all the poo poonut replies and questions to this thread. Gee is it really so hard to figure anything out on the hack or just shoot plain video of your golden retriever chasing butterflies in the backyard. People are just so lazy today and want to be breast feed.....Wow.

If you have the G2, just try the hacks and follow the instructions.....duh....I went to grade school and I understand simple math.

If you have a GH2 as i just bought......yeah, it is light years ahead of the G2, video quality is 1000x better. My suggestion is to get the GH2 and skip all the G2 hacks. The GH2 is just amazing right out of the box as is. Best video I have ever seen....period. For our videos, we like 720p @ 60 fps, motions is tight and it imports to FCPS3. 24p may be all the rage for poo poonuts, but it looks really jittery in real life and video ads. 60i at 1920 is great but we prefer 60p at 1280 x720 for our TV ads.

Wow, the GH2 is pretty damn good, better than our Canon MK2 5 D...........Thorsten

Which G2s are hackable?

Vitaliy, I'm wondering if there are any new G2 hack improvements coming up? It seems to work great so far except for two remaining problems:

* Enabling the NTSC <-> PAL hack disables video recording.
* Setting 4:2:2 color depth produces chroma banding on the lower half of MJPEG videos.

I'm really hoping 4:2:2 color can be fixed as I have a new patch that uses it, designed especially for the G2 (and GF1).

I don't know that is wrong with 4:2:2. As all seems to be correct.
Send me email and I'll provide you G2 database, so you could look yourself, ok?

As for NTSC<>PAL, we need to do few things to change patch. I'll try to privide instructions in email.

Settings from Zeroplusplus are working on my G2.
Except my AVCHD bitrate is at 11Mb/s and my MJPEG is at 8Mb/s average.
What's wrong with me ? (The shutter speed is not below 1/50)

Is it possible that the reason why I have some flickering on people's stroke when i'm filming ? (both avchd and mjpeg)

Thanks all for your advices, and Vitaliy, you're doing a great job for all the community, thanks a lot.

EDIT : I have a new SDHC Sandisk Extreme III 16Gb class 10
