G2 has the Extended Teleconversion feature as well

G2 has the Extended Teleconversion feature as well. I checked the manual and sure enough the G2 has the extra teleconversion feature that the GH2 has even for video. They called it EZ zoom for the G2 though. It is limited to a single 3.1x zoom for videos but it appears to be the near lossless version of the GH2. It crops the sensor instead of scaling.

I can't believe no one has mentioned that the G2 had this before? Panasonic did not even advertise it.

G2 manual page 56 explains how its EZ zoom feature works for Video and Stills.

I'm realllllly starting to think about getting a G2 if the hacked version allows the flexibility of the GF1 hacked with the newer processing and things like this that you mentioned. It's a great starting price. Now if only we could hack the G10 which looks to be basically the same camera with some options cut out of the menus and a fixed screen.

G2 has lost roughly half of its value in such a short time. The cheaper price from Asia isn't fully reflected in the States though. It gives good incentive to those who wanna upgrade from G1 to G2.

The G2 looks like a great deal now. I can't believe they didn't advertise this feature more.

So I don't know that much about the G2, and you seem to know a lot about the GF1 and the hack.... Could the G2 be able to do 720p 60fps with a hack? Can the GF1 do 60fps at 720p with the hack? I'm looking for the lowest entry point of getting 720p 60fps.

Thanks for the tip on the G2's 3X video teleconversion feature, mpgxsvcd! I found a used blue G2 at B&H for $460, which I'm planning on converting to an infrared videocam. The 3X zoom should work great with my Canon 12-75mm f1.8 C-mount zoom lens.

Man I think that 3x zoom with your 100 mb/sec MJPEG 4:2:2 settings is going to be very good. That 12-75mm sounds great as well. How much does that lens cost?

No.
G2 sensor can't do 60fps 720p.

Vitaliy, have you ever attempted to enable the tele extender mode for video on the GH1/GF1? Since this mode is apparently enabled in the G2, and now that you have started hacking the G2 firmware, perhaps you'll be able to apply this patch? I'm sure many people would love to see this happen.

+1 when you get the chance.
