G-Drive for on the road backup

I'm looking at the G-Drive to backup my P2 downloads while shooting doc on the road. It's 7200 RPM, 500G, and FW800 for $529.

Anyone have good or bad experiences with this drive? Better option?

If your on a PC the G-SATA is faster and works really well. I don't know if Apple works with PCIe and SATA.

Its a little bit more but well worth it.

I've had great experience with both the G-Raid 320GB and the G-Drive Mini 80 GB they haven't failed me once.

I've had two of the G-Raid/G-Tech 500 gb drives since last year.
I use them on the road with my laptop, then flip 'em to my pc when at home.
So far so good . . .

Bono,
Get the G-raid. I defintely recommend it over the G-Drive. You will get more space, and much faster, things you will need to be as efficent as possible when working with P2. I have the G-Drive and it is a bit slow when working with Motion, and other high-intensity file transferring. It even takes several seconds to wake up. Jusy my thoughts...

I agree, you get better performance from the G-raid, but you can't beat the portability of the G-drive mini.

I agreem the G-Drive Mini won't have the performance to edit with, but its a great buffer to download P2 data and then transfer to the G-RAID when you get home.

Can someone provide websites comparing the options. I've used up all my space in my G5 and I wanted to get something study and both portable for studio and location capturing. I'm fed up with regular FW drives. The LACIE drives are garbage and so are most of the other store bought drives. I do like SATA and some of those external enclosures look awesome.

What type of raid system to people recommend? Things to stay away from?

How is the G-Raid faster than the G-Drive? They are both 7200 RPM drives, both also FW800...Is there a speed component that I am missing?
