How about some new 1/3" native lenses to go right on the the HD-100's lens mount! Here is some new info about what Fuji and Canon are doing for the HD-100.

Quoting Highway Magazine:

"The choice of 1/3" bayonet mount lenses for ProHD camcorders is set to go from two, as at its recent launch, to six by half way through 2006.
Fujinon’s new 12x and 17x lenses, complementing their existing 16x and 13x, will be available in very early 2006, with Canon introducing their first ever
1/3" bayonet mount in the spring of 2006. Later on in the year Fujinon will launch their fifth 1/3" lens which will be 18x. In summary; six dedicated 1/3" professional zoom lenses, two 1/3" lens adaptors for existing 1/2" and 2/3" lenses, a Nikon 35mm SLR lens adaptor and the Mini35 Adaptor enabling use of 35mm film lenses.

JVC set out to provide video professionals with a professional look and feel to their ProHD equipment. JVC welcomes the speed with which their ProHD concept has been accepted by the market, not just by the video professionals but by the lens and equipment manufacturers. ProHD, the choice just goes on getting wider. Vote of confidence from Fujinon and Canon"

It just gets better and better for ProHD. All the best....

That's great news. Hopefully there will be a good mix of pricing in those selections as well. I find $12,000 for the 13x wide angle a bit too steep, but then I don't really need such a wide lens. Just something a little higher quality than the stock lens, in the $2,000 - $4,000 range would be nice.

New lenses couldn't hurt. I bet HD100U owners are jumping with joy at this news. Maybe somebody could do a comparison test of all the lenses once they come out?

JVC Factory Lens

JVC Factory Lens

Thinking about going w/ the JVC cam. Is the JVC Factory cam. decent? Good?
I mean, compared, say with what you would get w/ the HVX

thanks

If you ignore the faults of the JVC's lens and the split screen issue, the HVX and HD100 are very comparable, with the JVC edging out the Panasonic in pure resolution (but not by enough to base a decision on). The Panasonic, to me, also has a better default rendering of color...but the JVC has very deep capabilities to tune color response so you are not stuck with that.

The lens I find behaves well if I stay out of the last 25% of zoom, and the split screen rarely shows up.

If I weren't so interested in the HVX, I'd go with the JVC even with the SSE issue and the poor default lens.

What the JVC has going for it is that it has the best looking HDV 24p implementation I've seen, the XLH1 doesn't even beat it out. I also like the JVC's formfactor over the XLH1's because it rests more comfortably on my shoulder and other than that, I'm a sucker for the earpiece microphone to rest my ear against, it was just such a neat unique idea.

it would be really cool if someone would make some nice cine style primes just for this little camera :) kinda like baby digi-primes
