OK Yankee, Zack seems pretty down to earth so that indeed is one check in the sanity column for you. Although I happen to know it's a great film too, but I am completely bonkers as well so my vote will help you about as much as Coffees.

I don't know if this is a compliment or what? Don't get me wrong, I would still recommend this to anyone! I am glad that I bought it. NO NO NO, I mean I LOVE IT MORE THEN LIFE ITSELF! :cheesy:

Good call about the spoiler alert though. Changed and changed.

Haha,

I was just joking b/c the Yankee said that people thought he was crazy for raving about the film so than Coffee said he liked it and I said you can't use Coffee as a litmus for sanity...but you would help make the case for Yankee's sanity.

Oh, one last suggetsion ... spoiler alert is fine how it is, but you could (if you wanted to) put "I too thought it was great ..." before the spoiler alert -- that way you can still pimp the fillm and keep the secrets ...Muhahhahha!

Ok maybe a diabolical laugh didn't exactly work there but it felt GOOD!

Great job John, I applaud you. Fantastic job that you and you crew/cast accomplished.

Dude, we need to work on a short together. I'm moving to Jackson, NJ next Friday and will be right outside of PA. How far are you from Jersey?
coffee,

Thanks for the kind words man! :cheesy:

Erie is on the other side of Pennsylvania. I have driven to Sea Isle City, NJ before from Erie and it was like 8-9 hours or something. So we aren't down the road or anything, but OF COURSE I would be up for getting together in the future on something! I am starting to write my next movie. You?

I too thought it was great...I was just wanting more when the credits began to roll. More banter between the two guys at the hunting camp ______, more ______. That is just my first thoughts, I need to watch it again though. Overall GREAT though.
Thanks for the post Zack Attack! Your "wanting more" sounds like a positive comment more than a negative, am I right? I'm wondering if you got a chance to watch it again and what you think now either way. To me, HC plays different on subsiquent viewings since you can look for hints and stuff and maybe notice some things you missed first time around.

8-9 hours? damn dude, thats far! lol

I'm currently writing a short with a producer that I've worked with in the past. Also, I'm writing two features that I've been bouncing between for the past two months. I'm about 80% complete on the third rewrite on one and half way through the first draft on the other.

Super-speedy shipping. I enjoyed it. Surprised how good the 835 sounded. In some scenes it sounded borderline ADR good, but you needed a second mic a couple times (no big deal). Very good story. I'm sure everybody that gets this watches it at least twice... which is more then I can say about most 100 million dollar flicks I've seen!

The guy with the side-burns was a good guy to find for this stuff. He's just different enough to be interesting before he even says a word. I'd actually forgot that your Bogo entry was the one from the previous contest. It was cool when it popped up because I thought that was one of the best in that contest. I definitely gave that a thumb's up too!

I envy your professional packaging and DVD authoring.

Oh and thanks for not boinking us on the sale price. We touched on this earlier in this thread about another well-known flick, but I felt like this package was totally worth the cost and the other one was a little high $. That's ironic considering you probably spent quite a bit less to produce this. The moral once again... story comes before everything else.

I completely agree with what Matt said. This is an excellent example of story, acting, and technical ability overcoming the constraints of budget, time, location, and special effects. While I can say that the 'other film' if pure eye candy, the repeat viewing factor just does not exist (as with the case with most films I see). With this project I have watched it several times because it is a good story, technically it is great looking, but more than that, it works. It is a story that compels you to keep watching, but it also is something that you can study. I am still amazed at how great your camera movement is without the use of a dolly or any stabilizer unit. Furthermore, while the side burns actor initially got on my nerves, I now really like his performance and the way that he brings that character to life. The editing and presentation of this story just works really well. Finally, this is one of the best looking DV produced projects I have seen.

Last comment, price. I think the 'bang for the buck' is perfect with this disc. With a lot of the things I buy I always feel that I am getting ripped off. The commentaries are garbage, the deleted scenes are pointless, and the production notes are available in triplicate online. With 'Hunting Camp', the price is perfect, you get a decent sound track, but more than that, you get a really good short film that is twice as long, and at least that multiplier for the 'as good' factor as the competition available. Honestly, a great project that inspires other filmmakers to make the best possible project with the resources they have at hand and make their own project that will motivate others to do the same.
For me, 'Hunting Camp' has the same motivational factor as reading 'Rebel without a Crew'. That's saying something.

Bought through Amazon? That bumps the cost up right from the get-go. Sold by Amazon (you supply the DVDs), and they take 55%. Sold via CustomFlix and the seller is out $7+ per.

I've been looking at DVD duplicators/printers....ouch.

No matter what you do, it's a pain in the butt.

BTW I'm not saying the sideburns guy is your best actor, but he is the most interesting looking and sounding... so you gotta' keep him around. He bugged me a bit also at first, but that shouldn't be discouraging to you or him... he just needs to get a little better at acting. Sometimes he's perfect, sometimes I see through it... that's better then I can say for most prosumer actors. (and when you see me in something I won't be as good I'm sure)

I also wanted to say for the benefit of anybody else doing this stuff, that I'll buy everything that comes along on DVXuser like this. These flicks shouldn't be competing with each other. I'd WAY rather watch the stuff you guys do then anything on TV. The "other" flick was fine and I didn't mean to rip on it, but Lyons is one of our own so I thought it was more fun before I even pushed play.

Just like with the zombie flicks I can't get enough of this stuff.

I tend to agree with you Matt, I will pretty much buy anything that people put out here because 1. I want to see what they are making 2. I like supporting films that are made with the DVX 3. It is nice to help people recoup their initial investment and enable others to make a living doing this.

My general feeling is that if a product is good enough, it will sell. I feel like I got the most bang for my buck with this project. Plus, as the audiophile you are, a naked 845b sounded pretty good most of the time.

That's an impressive line-up you have on your plate, coffee. Damn! Now I feel like a slacker, he he. I'm sure you'll keep us posted, and let me know once you start producing them if you need a hand, maybe I wil need a road trip!

Good to hear! I do really appreciate you guys' the enthusiasm for giving feedback and everything, it's a great thing! (I wonder if anyone noticed the "quotes" banner I out down in my sig  ) I haven't heard of any shipping problems yet, but there's still some people from the forum I haven't heard anything back from yet either way (that have had it much longer than you guys).

The AT-835B is the first mic I have used. My local vendor recommended it to me and I went with it. It was a jack-of-all-trades most bang for the buck kinda mic I was looking for since it would be my only one (and still is). I am happy with it, but since you're an audiophile this is important to me to hear what you thought.

A 2nd mic - I don't doubt that, would be nice! If I had that many crew most of the time too, he he! With BOGO I am curious if you heard any sound improvement overall as I did try and get my guy to push that boom in there (watch the outtakes!) as much as possible for my 2nd attempt.

Cool! He as well is trying his hand at a lot of things now (music studio: he produced the HC soundtrack, stage acting, and next week we are shooting a "Mt. Kilburn" sequel I am trying to get him in) and is always wondering what you guys think, so I will pass it along...

We tried to make something that stands out for indies and looks like it could fit alongside all the Hollywood-made DVDs on your shelves. So this is nice to hear you guys say. It was an in-house thing as well (literally). It's all Dorota Swies really, I just did the authoring and menus.

Wow, thanks! Agreed, if anything hopefully it leads to you guys making something killer with the DVX. I don't know about you but I'm itching to start on something new, like right now!

I spent about a month just pounding out the basics of the story. Built it around the initial twist and the 2nd one came out of meeting with the cast (mainly Karen and Trevor - "Susan" and "Steve"), I didn't even plan on that one but it surfaced out of a "wouldn't it be interesting if then ____ happened?"

For your projects story-wise I would just recommend getting as many people as you can to read over your drafts because sometimes you miss some holes that someone not directly involved at that point can find rather easily. And they can make it better. For me it was 2 or 3 friends over with some beers and pizza.
