Other: FX9 VIDEOS / REVIEWS PHILIP BLOOM & ALiSTAR CHAPMAN

Philip's video was pretty good. I watched it the other day. He did a ton of testing with autofocus on the FX9. I learned a lot from it.

I really want an FX9 to replace my FS7II. Custom WB in Cine EI mode along with the higher resolution screen, the audio controls for all four channels on the side of the body, the full frame capabilities, the new color science, the 6K downscaled to 4K which looks so much better, the dual base ISOs, and the autofocus are all important to me. This camera is a major improvement in almost every way for my projects. I only wish I could afford it!

Same sentiments here. I have to cool it with new gear for a while as last year I acquired a set of Xeen Cinema Lenses and am super happy that I got them
(as well as the fact that they cover full frame (and then some) for a future FX9).

I remember having an FS100 and when the FS700 came out I felt the need to upgrade because of all the features & improvements, but I didn't upgrade.
Instead I slogged through another two or three years until the FS7 became available. I was glad that I waited. So now I wonder if I will experience a replay
of the same phenomenon...

The FX9 still uses the same XAVC Codec which is limited to 4K at 60 FPS. so I might ultimately wait for real 6K recording;
while an enhanced FX9 will output 16-Bit RAW, (I may be mistaken here but...) I understand that there are no recorders available for 16-bit RAW yet?

My main needs for an upgrade from the FS7 are really four-fold

1. CineTone color science should allow me to set exposure exactly the way I see it, with the client not needing to make any adjustments in post.
(I'm presently overexposing two-stops and despite explaining and the showing the client on the set how to lower the brightness in post...
they never do it, everything is too bright!)

2. Gaining a stop from ISO 2000 to ISO 4000 is better for night shoots.
(Maybe the lower ISO 800 is an improvement too, more like Kodak Kodachrome for day exteriors?)

3. I have an FS7 Mark I and really want the stronger FX9 e-mount for Cinema Lenses.
(I got the SmallRig lens support and find it too difficult to use with the Xeens).

4. Autofocus (Being able to track focus on talent coming straight towards the camera on a night exterior is amazing!)

Everything else is gravy as far as I'm concerned.

Oh Wait! I take that back, it seems that the very delicate power on/off switch has been beefed up at last!

On the other hand, If clients start asking for FX9's everywhere - then I'll have to start buying lottery tickets lol!

the plus side to upgrading is that all your accessories (mostly) should be cross compatible with the new camera. Theoretically you just sell the camera body kit like you bought it - lets say for 4 grand nice low fast and easy number.... then you need another what, 6-7k to get the fx9 up to "ready to shoot" assuming most of your accessories work save for a few new ones needed.

I think that's pretty easy to take on with a low to no interest loan, pay it back as it gets working.... if it's anything like the fs7 then the money will be made back tenfold.

that said, I still have my fs7 mark 1 I got in 2015 and it's still making me plenty of money with no complaints. just desires for moreeee powaahhhhh
