FX6: FX6 - Dodgy headphone jack

I’ve sent the camera back to Sony twice already as the headphone socket came loose inside the housing. I don’t have that problem, I have a different one!

This problem is intermittent contact even though the socket feels solid. It’s much worse with some headphones than with others. If I jiggle the plug around I can generally find contact and then it’s fine if I don’t need to move! Obviously not ideal.

I thought it might be dirt so I’ve tried isopropyl alcohol on the plug and compressed air into the socket. No change.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Audio is the worst thing to not be 100% sure about.

After you get it fixed you should attach a short adapter so you aren’t wearing out the headphone jack.

I’d also gaff tape the headphone cable so it isn’t pulling on the jack.

Have you tested other headphones? Could be the headphones not the jack.

Taping the headphone cable is a good idea, never thought of that. Yes, I've tried other headphones - sometimes worse, sometimes better but never perfect.

I'm a bit wary (or 'weary' as it's spelt on the internet) of using a short adapter. The headphone jack of the FS5 was on the back of the camera making it really awkward for braced-against-the-shoulder handheld. The plug of the headphones was positioned to dig straight out into my chest. I tried three different right-angle adapters and had... contact problems with every one.

I dunno, perhaps it's psychosomatic and I need counselling rather than technical help.
