Thanks for a great article. You two have put a lot of time, effort and knowledge into this. It is a great resource for all of us. Thanks once again for all your work.
I would also like to comment on how detailed and unbiased this review is, even though it reitereated the reasons why I love my DVX so much. You guys really broke down all of the variables and related it in a very coherent fashion. Great job, worth the wait!
Kudos for the excellent work. Something that you forgot to mention in the review. Community! I think the other products would be hard pressed to have a community as devoted and as knowledgable as this one.
Jarred, Barry. I noticed in the chip charts that the colours for the DVX seem much more viabrant than the other two. That surprised me in the difference. Did you notice that in the other footage you shot. Most of the samples were hard to tell any colour difference of that magnitude. Or was this just this one grab?
Thanks for the nice posts... it was a lot of work, but we hope it will help people pick the right camera for their purposes. They really are all excellent tools, just aimed at producing different results.
Regarding the charts -- the DVX's default color saturation is higher than the others. But keep in mind that all these cameras are so controllable regarding image quality, that color saturation isn't really something to get too hung up on -- we posted the charts at 0/neutral/middle settings on all the cameras. But you could crank the DVX down to -7, or boost it up to +7 and add in CineMatrix or Enriched Matrix and really make the color leap off the screen.
We shot with manual white balance, neutral/normal gamma, neutral/normal color matrix, and color saturation (chroma level on the DVX) set to middle.
EXCELLENT! i have people calling me all the time asking for breakdowns in difference. thanks for putting it all together in one place. very clear and unbiased. and it helps solidify the decision of my purchase.
Barry and Jarred - Excellent job! Very informative.
I'm probably asking a stupid question, but I'm curious as to why the Accu-Charts present the DVX in 872x480 while both XL2 images are 720x480?
Even so, to my amateur eyes there seems to be a significant difference in clarity/apparent resolution between the two cameras (esp. noticeable in the words "Vertex Video Sytems").
It would be great to have an unsqueezed 4:3 DVX Accu-Chart frame to compare with the XL2 4:3
Barry! In the review you said that both DVX and XL2 GAIN resolution in the progressive mode....What that exactly means? Is it related to more CCD usage :
