FX1 Sound Solution

The lack of XLR inputs is a big bummer for me when it comes to the FX1. How much will it cost to add some (by way of some kind of pre-amp, preferably attachable) ? And what are my options?

Argh...oh well. I guess that's just the price one pays for sounding professional. How do I put the cam on a tripod or steadicam with that adapter on there?

The adapter mounts onto the bottom of your camera, but on the adapter is a mount for a tripod so you can easily mount it on anything.

Cool. I guess going that route with the FX1 plus boom, mic, glidecam4000, a decent tripod and other standard goodies is still way cheaper than getting an HD100. Le sigh.

Its still way better in my opinion, if you arent happy with the camera and willing to spend countless dollars to spend money on things to soup it up, why didnt you just get the 100u?

The Beachtek DXA-4 also works with the FX1 but I don't think it has phantom power(I could be wrong) it's only 169.99 at b&h Here

Oh, don't me wrong. I don't actually have the FX1 yet. I had pretty much decided on the HD100 until I realized that I could just shoot 1080i with the FX1 and de-interlace with Magic Bullet. I don't mind the extra effort/time myself. And when I did the math, all the accessories I want plus the FX1 comes to a total of around $4300. That's a lot less than the HD100 alone. So it's not that I'm not happy with the camera. I'm sure I'll love it. I just wish it had the XLRs built in. Anyway, which is it that you think is better?

If I went with the cheaper pre-amp, what would be the best mic I can get that doesn't need phantom power?

With most any mic you can find a non-phantom power version. It just depended on if you already owned a phantom power one or not.

Ok, a few questions. One where are you getting your fx1 and accessories from for only 4300? and two if you want xlr’s and the fx1 why don’t you just opt. for the z1u?

I asked a genuine sony dealer here in Pakistan(the only one in Karachi in fact) about the price of an FX1, and although they wouldnt tell me the final price (until I confirm I want to buy it), they said i would find it in the "range" of about 2000$ (+-150$). Now eiether he didnt know a thing, or these cams really are getting cheaper (which makes sense).

I should add though that the cams arrive at pakistan through Dubai (a tax-free zone) so they "should" be cheaper anyway, but THAT cheap. I had no idea. Now I am thinking if I dont see something really kick-ass at IBC, I am just gonna get an FX-1. At that price, there is no competition.
