For anyone interested in seeing some frame grabs from SonyFX1. They are in the slideshows on the top of each page. Our experience with this camera has been very good. In underwater filming situations, it was crucial to have the 64min. of recording time offered by the FX1.

No idea how you're making this movie with the budget listed on the website.
The art design makes the frame grabs look incredible. Fine, fine work. Excellent.

Can't wait to see more from your team. Bravo.

Thanks for sharing this great work. Congratulations. It's fine art as can be seen so far. Waiting to see the whole project.

Awesome Footage

Awesome Footage

Wow your Director of Photography, Kevin Joelson did some amazing work. I can't wait to see the trailer or the film for that matter. Great work guys! Indie filmmaking at it's finest!

Really gorgeous looking grabs! I'm curious to know how this was shot. The grabs look 24p to me. Did you use the FX1 or Z1? If it's the FX1, did you do the pulldown in post? And if so, what did you use to achieve it? Details! I want details!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. To answer questions: The trailer will be completed next month when filming, sound, ADR, etc. is finished. The first phase of the movie will be complete towards the end of summer. The budget remained low thanks to the support of the freediving community, as this is the first freediving movie not to portray it as a dangerous sport and not to kill the lead actor by dive.
For accuracy regarding the D.P., Kevin Joelson was the DP for a portion of the project in La Jolla. The slideshow is comprised of approx. 1/3 of Kevin's work. Other work is by Chris Brandson and Sky Christopherson.

The frame grabs posted are just downconverted, interlaced .jpgs that have been compressed in macromedia flash. The finished footage will be 1080i HDV deinterlaced to 720p using 24fps smart deinterlacing. 16-bit color processing will be used for various color corrections.

i dont know if im missing something here, but does the fx1 have 24p?.

those grabs look really really good.

im wondering if you were using some kind of adapter or anything like that to give it the look.

and while im on here...does the z1u have 24p?. i have read on evsonline that it does, but ive read in other places that it doesnt.

Hi everyone,
This is Kevin Joelson...The DP for the San Diego footage of this movie. Im glad you are into the footage/screen grabs. Sky and I worked hard for the look to be just right.
To answer nick lee, the FX-1 doesn't have 24p it has a psedo 24p that is not captured in a progressive format.
We chose to shoot it clean (@60i) and will deinterlace the footage to progessive at a later time. There was no adapter on the lens to give it that look.
Good cinematography is the answer...stylized lighting, a good gaffer, and a DP who was given great ideas from the director Sky.

thanks.

how do you like the camera compared to a dvx??..if you have used one anyways.

i still cant make up my mind on what camera i wanna get thanks to you. haha.

before i saw your grabs i was gonna get the dvx..but now i have no clue.

-Nick.
