FX1 Comedy Film Inquiry

We are going to be shooting a comedy with two FX1 units this summer (both equiped with Mini35) and I was just dropping in to know what kind of frame motion I should use?

We plan to submit this to a film festivel and do they require any certain frame modes to be shown? I know the FX1 is limited to this considering it shoots native 60/1080i but can I shoot the film in CF24 or would shooting in 1080i and then converted to 24P work better?

I'm trying to find out a way to reduce the motion artifacts that conforming to 24P does, but rather I shoot in CF24 and use filmic pans to create the illusion.

What are your thoughts?

So... what do you mean? Just shoot it at a regulatory of 60i? Or do you insist CineFrame30?

I need more info.

The big question is wether or not you plan to transfer to film at any point. If you do, then for the FX-1, film at 60i. CF24 motion looks bad and won't transfer to film well. I wouldn't reccommend CF30 as it's very difficult to get a good 24p cadence from 30fps video. If you never plan on going to film CF30 will look okay, but personally I'd still shoot 60i and process in post as you'll have more flexibility. Just factor in render times into your post schedule as rendering HDV takes A LOT of time, even with the fastest hardware. I'm talking weeks for a full length feature.

shoot 60i and look up the natress plugin if your using fcp and use that to convert it to 24p

a straight conversion from 60i to 24p looks terrible, deinterlace to 30p then goto 24p not 60i to 24p

I'm on a Windows system and my primary unit to edit with is Vegas 6. Does Vegas deinterlace? And can it convert to 30p?

Deinterlacing should already make 60i look 30p. But if I were on vegas(used to be) i'd just use dvfilm maker to deinterlace AND convert to 24p, skipping 30p entirely.
