I am having trouble finding out how to run 60i on my FX1. I have read the manual but can find nothing that shows how to record in the 60i mode. I have set the cineframe in PP1 to 30 and 24 and It does not indicate 601 when I import into FCP or iMovie. Any thoughts
Thanks

The FX1 always, always records 60i. It doesn't have any other mode.

What you want to do is make sure that CineFrame is turned OFF. CineFrame 24 and CineFrame 30 are ways that the fields get dropped or combined to simulate progressive scan, but they still get recorded in 60i. You'll know when you're shooting 60i because a quick pan will be glass-smooth, vs. the stuttering you'll see in CF30 or CF24 footage.

Thanks for the info Barry. I am confused by the fact that, when I import the video into iMovie with CineFrame turned off, it indicates that I am in 30P not 60i. Should iMovie or FCP show that I am in 60i

Never used iMovie, so I don't know. But with CineFrame turned off, you should definitely be shooting 60i footage. How does it look on your TV? Should look like 60i...

Most video editing programs call 60i footage "29.97 fps". Not necessarily saying "progressive", but referring to the interlaced footage as 29.97fps. So it may be working fine after all, just using different terminology than you were expecting?

Are you sure he is not talking about shutter speed? There are a lot of readings out there that say you should use 1/60 sec shutter speed. If that is the case, just hit the shutter speed button and move the thumb wheel until it says 60 on your LCD screen.

If you are in HDV mode, then you are automatically shooting 60i.

Just check (apple+9 in FCP)if the fielddomminance of your captured material is "upper". If so, fine. If it says "none" you recorded in cineframe mode.
