FX-1 and uncompressed capture

Hi!
Somebody said something about shooting uncompressed from the live camera. to get a uncompressed system to capture the video. This was related to HDV.
Is this possible. And with what HD type? Uncompressed HDV (?!) 4:4:4?

No, absolutely not from the FX-1. You would need SDI-outs also. The new Canon is capable of this feature, but you pay the nice premium price of about 10K.

Well from what I remember over at Dvinfo, uncompressed capture (from FX1/Z1) is possible and it was done and tested and I downloaded the clip and it was agreed that indeed it was uncompressed in the sense that it had not gone through MPEG compression i.e pre MPEG signal. So yes it is possible albiet with having to hook upto a comptuer with SDI (like black magic ?) card And lots of harddrive space.

Yeah, you'd still need a component->HDSDI converter and the capture card and the raid.
but not 4:4:4! right?

All of the low-cost HD cameras can output an uncompressed signal. It's not HDV, as HDV implies massive MPEG compression -- these cameras avoid the HDV compression stage. However, it's not going to be 4:4:4, first of all because it's analog so there's no x:x:x sampling going on anyway, but second because it'll be limited by whatever internal processing is going on. Even on the Canon XL H1, which has a genuine HD-SDI port, the best you can get out of it is 4:2:2 8-bit. The analog output should obviously be an analog-ized version of that, at best.

They did it with a DVX, im sure its possible.
Certainly should be possible, but that's a $3,000 modification and it's taken a couple of years (I think) to get it to this point. So don't expect to see it from an HD camera any time soon; maybe someday but certainly not in the next few months.
