Here's the tragic story....

Last Tuesday I backed up all my data on my xw8400 since I needed to upgrade from XP to Win 7 for Avid 6. Wednesday I turned on the machine and its mother board fried. $750 for a new motherboard or $2200 for new computer [gfx card too], so I bought new. Didnt have the cash....but what are credit cards for? In the xw8400 I had used SCSI drives & GTECH G-Raid drives via FW800. Of course the z400 doesnt support the Atto UL4d card that I had, they want me to buy a more expensive UL5d...but most of my video stuff was on the GRAID anyway. I would like to reuse the 2 GRAID's to use as edit drives. [Config guide http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportF...Composer - NewsCutter 10 and later Rev A.pdf]

In slot one of the computer Im told to put my Matrox Mini MXO2 card which leaves slot 3-6 open [2 is gfx card]... however, no matter what I try my current FW 800 card (or an old startech 1394b card) will not write data fast enough to the drives when hooked up fw 800 to a card in slot 5 or 6. In fact, I get better performance just hooking them up USB. I should mention, that in my other z400 avid 6 computer I use a fw800 card & it works well, but thats in slot 1--- where Im supposed to put the MXO2 Mini card.

Is anyone having success with a MXO2 Mini, FW800 drives and a z400? If so can you shed some light?
