GH4 Futur firware update for GH4 and what the 10bit uncompressed output could bring to us

Was just curious to hear your opinion on the subjet... I hope but maybe im too naive, thath panasonic will update the gh4 color science with futur firmware update like other company does for their pro camera, is it reasonable to think it will happen? or maybe a hack ? :)

Im still dreaming but i can't stop thinking what a hack with the soon possible 10bit output could bring to us... I like the idea we could get the image closer to BM , which have a more filmic, organic look with a better color representation to my eyes. Digital bolex is also pretty neat isn'it?
That's would be so great, no? :)

The HDMI output from the GH4 is already 10 bit.

Well yes thanks but i know this... But noneone is able yet to answer how much improvement you could expect for color, grading and DR when recording in 10bit as the shotgun recorder is not yet released to record in 4k 10bit and so is the DMW-YAGH Module which will allow you to record a 10bit signal other the SDI...

I also hope Panasonic will do an Fireware update to the GH4 this year, I feel like everything loves the camera but things like a LumixLog would be amazing when your doing 10-Bit also I would hope Panasonic would make the GH4 able to send out CinemaDNG from the HDMI since the Atomos Shogun will be able to record it.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for any big changes. I could almost guarantee no cinema dng or any other new format. The gh2 did add HBR 30p mode to the camera, so a new mode may not be completely out of the question, but this is not Blackmagic giving us a barebones camera, and adding required features. They have given us a great tool set for the price, and I would expect that any major upgrades will be saved for the GH5. Of course this is just my own opinion and conjecture, so tifwiw.

Its also what my intuition. Maybe there is more chance on firmware hack .

About the 10b question, i know some people did some tests on a Macbook Pro via an Ultrastudio Express at 1920x1080 10-bit Prores HQ. Apparently there were no difference the eyes could detect really now i could imagine greenscreen keying and colorgrading will be a little bit smoother

I'd really like to see them add the ability to set a minimum shutter speed for photographs. Obviously not useful for filmmaking, but would be enormously helpful for shooting in low light.
Actually, the minimum shutter speed setting is what make Nikon DSLR's work well for shooting video in aperture-priority mode. Nikons have long provided the auto-ISO feature that Panasonic recently added to the GH4. In conjunction with this, however, you can also set a minimum shutter speed, e.g. 1/60 sec. You can then set your aperture as desired in aperture-priority mode, and the camera will adjust the ISO to the correct exposure. If there's too much light for ISO 100, the shutter speed will be increased beyond your minimum shutter speed, in which case you can use the Exposure Compensation button to adjust it back down to your preferred minimum.

Don't expect any hack to do more than what the previous ones have done. Namely, just changing the bit rates that the video is encoded in.

Yep, as awesome as the hacks have been for getting better image quality, they haven't done anything near what Magic Latern has done for Canon cameras. ML almost makes Canons as good as the former GHs...

There are some amazing hackers out there, if we can get the 5D to send out a RAW image then I dont see why we cant get the GH4 to do it with the right amount of people standing behind it.

Raw is great, but also a pain in the ass for someone doing quick turn broadcast work. This is where 10 bit 422 ProRes from the Shogun/GH4 will shine.

Cards are getting faster and faster, i guess some hack could make possible 10bit internal recording , eventually RAW output, higher frame rate , a burst mode ....

What I'd like to see is Intra frame recording in the 4K modes with a bit rate of 300Mbps or higher. 400Mbps would be a good goal. Hopefully it can eighter get hacked or Panasonic give us the options.

I fully agree my company shoots action sports, so RAW is a bit overkill for most things that we do but having the option is amazing. 10 Bit is what Im really happy to start using so we have more room, but I also love to shoot wildlife and having Raw and wildlife is sweet so mabye that may come.

Don't hold your breath on a GH4 hack; the GH3 hasn't even been hacked yet. I suspect that Panasonic might have had some grudging admiration for past hack, but might have also done more to prevent it in the future... at least I would, if I was them.
