Hey guys, just shot this small martial arts flick in the streets of Sydney last weekend...

It was a spur of the moment thing, no real script, just went out there and shot. No additional lights, budget of aus$3. Run and gun!

Gain was up to 12db at times...

Thanks guys! Sit back and have a good time!

Cool man. Looked like fun to shoot. Those are some pretty public places. Did you have to get permits or did you shoot it guerilla? As with the other martial arts short on this site, it seems like what was lacking were sounds to give it some extra visceral energy.

This is what I did for the other guy's short:
http://www.distortionproductions.com/martialdemo.mov

The part where the lead ran up the wall reminds me of this time I tried to do that. I didn't quite make the flip and I fell straight down vertically on my back after getting up about six feet in the air. That didn't feel too good. Needless to say, I haven't tried to do that again.

yeah totally guerilla... cool clip, the sound fx in your film are for a serious martial arts film... we're going for something fun, even taking the piss out of the whole thing... :)

I noticed when I was cutting those martial arts sound FX that only a slight change would push everything over into something fun and silly. More the "whoopat!" type sounds, less realistic. I guess it's the absence of sound FX in certain places that is more noticeable. You may want to cut something into even missed kicks and punches. Like air and cloth whooshes.

thanks guys... remember the kid is only 15 yrs old

Took the Ong Bak right out of my head there. Someone love Tony Ja... Nice acrobatics.. Kind of predictable moves and kicks though.. but fun.

That was great. Nice pace. I liked the music, but it felt a little too strong at times. The freeze frame of the bread hitting him in the face was hilarious.
