Funky DVX Smear

I was shooting with my DVX100 in snow the other day...

One shot the viewfinder was clear as a whistle.

Next time I looked into it, there is a grey smear / smudge in there. I've no idea how it got there!

The footage is fine and dandy, but makes it annoying to film.

I've searched on the Google to no avail.

Has anyone seen this before? How can I fix it?

is it possible to open the viewfinder and clean it?

e.g. on the Sony VX2100 there is a clip to take off the main bit of the viewfinder bu I can't see it on the DVX...
