Funeral with 35mm adaptor EX1

huh...the first thing that leaps to mind is "bad taste"?

Not trying to sound harsh or anything, this just seems oddly exploitive only because I don't understand the nature of the footage. If it's part of a larger piece and has some sort of purpose, that's cool. It just felt like you were trying out your new camera (or were hired to shoot) at this guy's funeral and are now showing it to us, which feels cold and morbid to me.

BUT, I totally am not passing any sort judgement, as I have no idea what greater purpose this footage might be serving (documentary, etc).

It would be nice to have some context, though for things like this. Like if you were showing an animal being skinned alive and posted it here and said, "Check out my 35mm adapter", I would take issue with that; however if you post the footage and explain that the footage is from a documentary you are working on regarding the atrocities of fur trade, I could at least have a frame of reference of how you're exhibiting the footage.

I just think more explanation is warranted than "Funeral with 35mm adapter and EX", lest we as artists become completely devoid of real life empathy.

Haha ok I understand what you're saying. This was a funeral I was hired to shoot. I posted it cause this is the first project with my new 35 mm adaptor. That's why I only posted short clips and nothing depressing (crying, casket, etc). Just thought the footage itself looked neat so I wanted to post it.

Hmmmmm... Yeah, probably shouldn't do that. It shows a striking lack of empathy and, whether you meant to or not, it's exploitive. You shot it so it's your position to do with it as you choose, I just think you'd be better served going to a crowded area and shooting some people milling about and show us that. Showing people in such an intimate moment to us for no other reason than to say "check out this adapter" is decisively unempathetic. Just general life lesson stuff, nothing to do with being a filmmaker or videographer.

I certainly didn't take offense, but I see where Chamber is coming from. I'd say your choice in shots kept it from being offensive. Nice looking footage anyway (and sympathies to the family).
