Full HD on HDMI while recording

Not until he can figure out a way to:

1. Lose all of the overlays.
2. Disengage the live view battery saver.
Done and done. The overlays are masked by the zebra drawing code and powersave.disable has been in the Magic Lantern config file since 0.1.6.

Just to be clear though - the HDMI signal is being sent out AFTER compression.... or is it actually prior to the H.264 compression?
And... how similiar do you anticipate the 7D firmware being?
:)

I think the RED share price just took a hit

I know! Now, while I know the RED in Big Budget hands can perform 35mm quality, however, for everyone else, the recent 7D footage is looking just as good as any RED footage I've seen from indi filmmakers., imho. I'm sure the folks at RED are wondering what this new Canon brand will do to their impending Scarlet sales. And, I'm not just about the 7D, but that Canon is indeed going to be honing this even further in the 7D Mk II.

Still after compression. Still with aliasing. It's more useful for monitoring.

Go Go Hudson.

It is after chroma subsampling, but before h.264 compression.

The real downer is that it is not full-screen; the 16:9 HDMI signal has the entire 3:2 sensor displayed on the screen, which requires 150 pixel side pillars. Then there is a soft matte to show the active 16:9 region. The effective resolution on HDMI right now appears to be about 1620x911.

But it is much, much better for monitoring and focus than the 480p signal!

I note it's 1080i, not 1080p. You might not want to.
It is 1080i60 PSF, so you can trivially reconstruct the 1080p signal from the bit stream with a solid state recorder like the nanoFlash. However, the above caveats still apply. I'm hoping to fix those, too, since the live view digital zoom function clearly can output a full 16:9 image of a subsection of the sensor.

This is news! (on both)

Tramm,

What exactly does it mean? Can we hope see it on 0.1.7?

Will it work regardless the Live View? Or only in Live View?

Another useful feature, it would be to have the AF information available for the use of AF confirm adapters with manual lenses.

I'm wondering if we might not be able to have a capable follow focus method from there...?
Without the optional beep sound, of course.

E. :-)

This is great , i wondering if 7d firmware code will help to port different video framerates to 5d and also 500d,maybe even 500d in hudson's hands would give some hints with its 20p in 1080 mode.
