Full Frame Movie Screen Grabs

Just searched through the last 10 pages and had no luck finding some Full Resolution D90 grabs from movie mode.

Anyone care to post any for my viewing pleasures?

Still trying to grasp the whole, controlling your D90 ISO and shutter thing. Also all the steps involved to uprez, de stair step it and convert the frame rate to sync sound.

Seems like a lot of steps, but it also sounds like something tha you get used to workflow wise.

but even that is compressed.

I want some full resolution JPEG stills at high quality to properly judge the image quality.

Thanks though Squig!

thanks for that holyzoo, do you have anymore with faces?

And yeah, that is damn soft.

Images are soft, I can agree. But might be due to dialing down sharpness in camera. I do that, so that when it goes to the tele it looks nice.

The D90's AA-filter is pretty strong and pictures are pretty soft w/o sharpening. Acc to dpreview you can pump up the sharpening to +5 - +6 w/o any noticeable halos.

I did a small test with all the picture control settings before using the D-movie feature out in the field. Camera on tripod w/ same subject, changed one setting at a time and recorded a short 10sec video after applying each. Later compared each clip on my computer and so I'm currently using these settings:

Portrait mode w/ Matt's custom curve applied
Sharpening +6
Active D-lightning OFF (looks like it's not active at all in LiveView/D-movie, can anyone confirm?)
The rest is default

Anyone thinks this is a bad idea?

Would be interested in seeing your technique on some screen grabs. However, the biggest issue of all for me with this camera is the evil jello.

Held my first D90 just bellow where i work in a mall. The body alone was 1120 Canadian dollars, and wit ha lens 1400. Not too shabby. Played around with the jello vision and as i thought, it was as rough as my cell phone cam. But with some proper stabilization and without going too far in telephoto it wasn't as bad as i had thought.

Neither I nor the salesman could figure out how to do the AE lock thing without pressing and holding it.

Also, it shows us that the F stop, shutter and ISO are set, but it is quite clearly changing as i moved the camera to objects with different luminoscity.

How do we set it to 24p, and ensure that you're shooting with 1/48th shutter while locking the ISO? I read the instruction in the other thread but still foggy on the idea of pointing your camera towards something shady...
