Fujinon lens shooting lights

Just wondering if you guys have ever experienced this effect when shooting lights. HPX500 w/Fujinon 17x7.6 BERM... didn't star when I had the 2x extender on. Have posted one without 2x extender, and one with. You'll notice the one without 2x has a starring effect. Is that the lense? Would it do that with other lenses?

Hi morgster I have noticed this only happens on particular vehicle lights. Something like a HMI doesnt do it. Either way I dont find it terribly bad in anyway.

Interesting. With a still camera like a Canon 5D, I get the star effect by stopping down the lens to f16 or f22 -- the tiny aperture and the aperture blades seem to combine and create the starts. You might minimize the stars by opening up the lens as much as possible.

wasn't too worried about the look... but just when asked by the client why it looked that way, didn't know what to say. Just striving to understand more about why certain things are certain ways, so I can control my shooting more, and prepare for certain things. I think it looked quite nice.

DO you have any filters on the lens? Certain filters are made to do that, but depending on the brand, certain UV filters can cause this too, basically the light refracting off of the glass.

No filters on the lense... just straight up... I just noticed the difference between having the 2x extender on and off.
