FS7: Fujinon announce MK 18-55 T2.9 and MK 50-135 T2.9

the Fuji MKs are small and light enough to swap quickly in the field you can easily deploy with a 18-55 on the camera and the 50-135 in a pouch and have a well balanced lightweight rig.

I'm on board wit' you, my man. Plan on getting the 18-55mm soon. I just gotta catch B & H on one of the 3 days a month that they are open and taking orders!

They are great but possibly serving a different purpose with a more robust and 'cine' feel to them. I'm guessing the 18-35 is twice the weight of the Fuji. They're also not on sale in the UK yet :(

Still, everyone should have the stills version in their kit.

I got mine from duclos lenses in LA they offer free service on lenses purchased from them.

"Increases field of view by 30%"

I'm terrible at math, Ick. So that would make the 20-120mm into a...? A 14mm on the wide end? 14mm-84mm?

And WHY does Schneider refuse to put threads on the front of their wide angle adapters???

It's not a zoom-through, so you'd have a 14mm and a 20-120. If it was a zoom-through, I'd really consider getting it for my 17-120. That'd give me ~12mm(11.9) on the back-end. But for just wide scenic pan shots, it may be something to think about.

And my .02 why no one is really talking about the Canon 18-80... It's just an un-exciting lens. Not quite wide enough, not quite long enough, and definitely not fast enough. Plus the hybrid manual/stills focus ring. If you've never shot anything but stills glass, it's probably a step-up/gateway, but it doesn't do it for me.

I agree. The Canon is even more boring to me than the Sony 18-110mm. (It might be like a date with a 3rd cousin.)

Also, there's something about the footage I've see from the Fujinon 18-55mm. It has a smoothness and beauty to it that I haven't seen in any of the other sub $10K zooms. And it proves to me again why I hate f/4 zooms (although I know they are sometimes a necessary tool).

Hey has anyone that's pre-ordered in Australia received theirs yet or have any more info on arrival dates?
Best I've got is 'mid-march'... *looks anxiously at calendar*

Heard there was a small mechanical issue with the first 65, or so, Fujinon 18-55mm so they've been recalled, & if your an owner of one of these lenses Fujinon will swap it out free of charge.

I had one of the busted Fujis. One of the aperture blades comes loose really easily and it jams the aperture. Sent it back to Duclos - and they returned it to Fuji. Hopefully get it back soon.

My father always warned "Never purchase the first model of anything.". He was primarily referring to automobile models, but it is still sage advice.

That said, I purchased an Fs7M1 and did so only a month after they were released. As of yet no ill-consequence of having done so, knock on wood.

Fujinon is also bringing this out in X mount as well as for this pair of lenses, as well as E mount, makes you wonder if Fujinon is going to bring out a cinema camera.... their stills cameras are doing 4K after all.

So, is this mount on the lenses swappable between X mount and E mount??

I wonder *if* the new lower priced Varicam ships in MFT mount if they will then release this for MFT mount as well?

I feel that the biggest drawback of these new Fuji's is that they are Sony E-Mount only and it doesn't look like they can be adapted to anything else.

I don't believe you can go from E-Mount to FZ, nor can you go to PL which has a much greater FFD. If you're in the E-mount universe and can make your money back with a few jobs maybe that's not so much of an issues. But it's not a lens that's going to be with you for the next 20 years.

The Sigma zooms will go on any camera with a PL mount, be that native or via an adapter.

I played with the 18-35 and 50-100 over at Duclos and the 18-35 is a seriously impressive piece of glass. When you see these lenses in person it's almost hard to believe that they are only between $4-5k depending on mount. The 50-100 breathes a lot going all the way from infinity to min distance, but I found it acceptable racking from one person another in a two shot. Really no worse than vintage glass like Super Baltars etc.

Oh man that would be a dream if it could be used on FZ mount! I'd start to seriously consider it as a purchase then.

They are going to bring it out in X mount next? Wonder if those mounts will be swappable? If so.... maybe maybe there is still hope for FZ mount yet!

Currently an F55 on eBay for $14k with a 90 warranty. Very tempting. But I can count on one hand the number of times I've had a call requesting an F55.

I think I'll wait for the day in the most too distant future when an Alexa Mini is available used for $14k. :D

An F55 is damn tempting at that price, and F5 is even cheaper!

Arri Alexa Classics are already being put up for sale sometimes for notably less than $14K, but I suspect that sadly it will be a long time until we see an Alexa Mini for that price! (probably not until true 4K demand becomes very heavy everywhere, and thus the Arri 3.4K sensor goes completely out of fashion)

Well, E-mount has a shallower flange distance than FZ. And X is slightly shallower than E. I think Matt Duclos did say he could probably work out a mount swap, but you'd lose the macro ability(and possibly the back focus adjustment, but don't quote me on that part).
