Fujinon 12X video lens mod to Panasonic GH-1

Actually you get a zoom with f1.7 @ T3.8. The depth of field calculated for a f1.7 lens but with lower light transmission of 2 stops.

You sure about that? the extender effectively doubles focal length, so it must in doing so double the fstop, right? this would mean it still has the same dof as without the extender, which makes sense.

It all gets much easier with GH2. You don't need extender in crop-mode and you get original f1.7 speed and no edge distortion.

i have finally managed to use my Angenieux T 14x8,5 lens with 2x extender on GH1.. apart from being quite heavy, it's such a pleasure to have an eng lens again to use... but... it is very soft and blurry as you move from center... see this frame grab:

how do you think this compares to images you get from canon or fujinon glass ? i have a fujinon lens also, but with no extender.. is it possible to remove extender and put it on the fuji lens?

Softness seems quite escessive compared to other footage I've saw coming from Gh1 and B4 adapted lenses.
And the Angenieux 14X8.5 is a pretty sharp lens from my experience.
The easiest (but expensive) way to adpat your Fuji lens is adding a 2X - B4 specific - doubler from Canon, Fujinon or Century. The price of these adapters is around, or even more, than 2.000 Euros; and they are difficult to find used.

Can I ask you to make a quick test? Shoot with your Angenieux 14X some footage, without engaging the extender, with aperture from F1.7 to F4, and then post some stills extract from the video sequence, (eventually, crop the images to eliminate the vignettings).
This test would be useful to understand how a quality 2/3" 3 ccd lens could perform on GH2, since in ETC mode does not require any doubler to cover the sensor.

^^ Yes! I have a Canon 12X ENG zoom that I am waiting to test with 1:1 mode. Found a B4 to m4/3 adapter on ebay to adapt it directly. No need for doubler w/ 1:1!

And no vignetting either, the youtube clip posted earlier seemed to have some vignetting even after the 2x extender, but the digital 2.6x crop should do the trick. It's actually probably a bit cropped for the lens since I think it'll give you something between a 1/2" and 2/3" format recording area.

Indeed, crop factor for 2/3" lens oin ETC 1080 mode is 22% circa. Not a big deal considering the use of a more central portion of the lens, with better optical characteristics.

But my concern is another: forum's member wbamb83392, tested a 1/2" lens (with no extender) on GH1, to see how could hypothetically perform a typical video lens developed for 3 ccd cameras, on GH2 in ETC mode. Aside the expected vignetting, the images looked terribly soft (useless would be a better term), down to f4.

If all B4 video lenses acts in the same way, and if you are forced to close down aperture to f4 to get some usable results, than the benefit from 1:1 crop mode will be entirely null.

At which aperture those two shoots were taken?
I know you have an adapter made by the italian craftman Lolli, have you tried to re-adjust backfocus?

Anyway, if ETC mode on GH2 gives same useless results...

Have you tested your Canon in ETC mode? Which adapter? Results?
Thanks.

Just got GH2, and have been testing a little bit. I'm planning to do some testing this weekend with the:

Canon 12X ENG zoom
Cosmitar 12-74 TV Zoom
Nikon 25mm 1.2 c-mount

In initial testing with the ENG zoom, I've found you have to stop it down to atleast 2 or 2.8 to get more contrast/sharpness. But in ETC mode, the full range of the lens is certainly useful!

Here are some pics of the lens on the GH2.

Footage to come soon. I'll have it with and without telecine mode. Also will have it from the footage you get and from the LCD view of what you are shooting.
