Fuji X-T3 released

Well, it's a $1500 APS-C lens so yes I'd say it's expensive, though indeed it could have been A LOT worse, I was definitely expecting >$3k. My 25mm f/0.95 for m43 was $500, it seems being designed for smaller sensors with short focal flange distances really helps keep costs down.

This new Fuji is AF though, as is the EF 50mm f/1.0. MF with such shallow DOF would be a real challenge with moving subject and or camera.
That was my complaint back in the day shooting my 5D MKII with my Nikon Ai 50mm f/1.4, the DOF was so ridiculously shallow that it was
impossible to shoot moving subjects and or camera and nail focus.

At first, it was thrilling to have the low light ability from the FF and a nice, fast, heavy, brass, well-made MF lens. But the Jello was horrific and the DOF
was so shallow as to be a handicap in normal shooting. I ended up hating that camera and combo, even though at the time, everyone else was in love
with the super shallow DOF. That entire era was filled with videos, TV and films that were more out of focus than in-focus. Ughh. Talk about the Emporers
new clothes.

Some of the images I've seen from the XF 50mm F1 look really nice. I'm not wowed but I realize I had unrealistic expectations based on the first rumored price of just under $3000 that was originally mentioned. I was hoping for a miracle lens kind of like the RF 85mm F1.2 gets you somewhat close to the performance of the GF 110mm F2. I was surprised when the price was announced at $1499 but I held on to the just under $3000 image quality expectations. The weight and the $1500 price mark are already quite high for a 50mm APS-C lens even if the lens is worth it so I think Fujifilm made concessions to hit that price point instead of lenses like the GF 110mm F2 and the RF 85mm 1.2 which make very few concessions to the image quality. The XF 50mm F1 is expensive for APS-C but the price is reasonable if you are already invested in the XF system. I it's a nice addition to Fujifilm's XF lineup and probably smart not to make it a "no compromise" lens as the buyer's would have been few and far between at $3000.

Meanwhile, as a nature photographer or cinematographer, I would bypass Fuji because they have basically ignored the longer focal ranges other than the just ok 100-400. I've rented it twice and my images are okay but it's far from the magic of the
long Canon and Nikon glass lineups. The 200mm f/2.0 is superb but in the world of long lens shooting, 200 is nothing and it's a shame to put a TC in front of such a magnificent piece of glass. I don't like TCs. From a strategy viewpoint, the 50mm f/1.0
is nothing but a distraction, hope they are concentrating on the lenses pros really want and that lens isn't it. Also Fuji, how about some XF wide, fast primes? I have the XF16mm f/1.4 and it is outrageously good for the price what what about a 10-12mm f/2.0?

XT3 AF update coming Oct. 28

https://petapixel.com/2020/10/15/ne...update-will-more-than-double-autofocus-speed/

Excited to see if this returns the AF to former glory (although I haven't really had as much of an issue with it as others, must be what I'm shooting).

This update is out! They claim the X-T3 is now as fast in terms of AF as the X-T4, which makes me glad I didn’t go through the trouble of selling and upgrading.

https://www.fujirumors.com/new-firmware-for-fujifilm-x-t3-and-x-h1-released-download-now/

The firmware update Ver.4.00 from Ver.3.30 incorporates the following issues:

Regarding the detail of the improvements, download the “X-T3 New Features Guide” from our website.

1) The update will improve the autofocusing performance of the X-T3 to the same level as the “FUJIFILM X-T4”(X-T4).

The fastest AF speed has been improved from 0.06 seconds to 0.02 seconds, equivalent to the performance of the X-T4.

The algorithm for predicting subject movements has been updated.
AF tracking performance has been doubled*. Press the shutter button halfway down when a subject is in the focus area to maintain focus on the subject with a higher level of accuracy.
The Face Tracking / Eye AF performance has been upgraded. The algorithm has been re-written to double* the tracking performance of the Eye AF in continuous shooting modes.
The update allows the camera AF to work in low light levels down to -7EV**, facilitating fast and highly-accurate phase detection AF even in near darkness.
The new firmware adds the “Focus Limiter” function which gives a pre-define specific focus range.
* When compared with the Firmware Ver.3.30.
** When using the FUJINON Lens XF50mmF1.0 R WR.

2) Other improvements.

The size of the Single AF point can be adjusted during video recording.
Photo ratings can be read by third-party software, allowing users to find their favorite pictures quickly.
The focus point can be changed by the focus lever during AE lock.
The default setting of the AF-S PRIORITY SELECTION in the RELEASE/FOCUS PRIORITY of the SHOOTING menu is changed to FOCUS from RELEASE.

3) Fix of minor bugs.

It's questionable...but maybe would be good enough for you.

I'd watch the entire video if an upgrade is a serious consideration...

Has anyone tested the XT3 AF firmware upgrade?
Not yet. After seeing that P.Bloom video I completely lost my enthusiasm..
How is it going with your A7SIII?

Yesterday I had a C70. I thought I wanted one, for corporate and whatever low-mid profile videos. Footage is very decent, camera is small.. Very decent autofocus. Usable at 100/120fps. But after seeing it in person I almost completely lost interest in buying one. Not that small. Not that big. Heavy for a camera you can't put against your face..
I wonder if I should have a closer look to the A7SIII.
But at the end, I think I'll keep my XT3, eventually buy another body so I can have one for gimbal and one with cage for tripod.. And certainly keep my order for the Komodo, that has been a real pleasure to shoot with

IMO, Fujifilm isn't allowed to have 4K/60p, 10-bit and good AF all at once...at least for that price.

Just not happening, unfortunately...too good for the consumer and terrible for business as most camera sales would cease overnight.

I really enjoy the A7SIII although I'm sure the shooting experience is very different from Komodo. But rigidity/mounting points/interface aside, I feel like the A7SIII sensor/processing could shoot anything. And it's fabulously clean at ISO 12800 and has great DR, like most cameras these days.

IBIS is pretty lousy compared to GH5. Active electronic stabilization works very well with a 10% crop.

Evaluating lenses with regard to AF performance is new for me. and it's odd to see how different lenses require different camera settings (subject switching sensitivity and transition speed) to behave similarly. And there's a bit of a devil's bargain in that the lens with the fastest, best autofocus may not have the look you most desire. But all my lenses focus quite well and none of them is the absolute best for autofocus of their type. The autofocus is a joy to use. But I have no plans to remove my 7" ikan monitor from my Ronin-S so I can continue to closely monitor where the camera puts focus and make sure all is well

Oh, one thing I forgot - my EVF on the A7SIII is color-accurate but the LCD screen is slightly off. So I cant judge color by the back monitor, unfortunately. I've heard of cameras with a similar disparity but I never owned one before

Curious if anyone had any experience with Fuji x-t200. A couple of days ago it dropped to 450$ us for a few hours, but looks like it’s back up in price.

No experience with that one, but I owned two models that the T200 essentially replaced.

It's the budget option in this family and packs a punch for a simple videographer, but missing some features that some "pros" might want (like F-Log and 4K/60p).

When the X-T3 is on sale for $999 or so sometimes, it's not worth it. But at half the current price, it's a bargain (as is the X-T30 with F-Log).

Thought I would drop this here, we just posted the Katzkin Leather Behind the Seams video. Katzkin is the industry leader in custom leather car interiors, they make really
nice products that I learned about in producing this piece. This is a marketing piece aimed at Katzkin restylers and installers who were not able to
see Katzkin at the 2020 SEMA show since it was canceled.

This video, other than the roll-in pieces, was shot with three Fuji X-T3s in studio with a full crew, stage and lighting and on location with a very minimal crew, sometimes just me with the gimbal.
I think it's a pretty good testimonial about how great the X-T3 is, especially when you light for it to limit the DR needed to record the scene. I especially like the product shots that I shot inside
actual cars utilizing the X-T3 and our Rhino Motion Control rig. Client was extremely happy with the finished piece and we'll hopfully be producing more content for them.

Enjoy!

Very nice! Their products are amazing. I installed a Katzkin interior in my “fun” car last year.
