Fuji X-T3 released

Thanks for the advice guys. I have two extra 256GB Sandisk Extreme Pros around from our C200, guess I'll try those first to see what happens. Those Sonys aren't a bad deal either at $90.00 ea. but only for 128GB
Same with H.265, sounds like it may or may not work well with FCP. I'll sometimes want to match the X-T3 F-Log with C200 CRL so I'll have to run some tests to see what gets me into the same neightborhood color-wise.

Looking forward to learning this new camera and going to town shooting with it. Even from looking at not that skilled of a shooter using it on the YouTube videos, I can tell that the footage looks great so with good lighting and composition skills,
I think I will be able to make the X-T3 sing. I continue to be impressed and amazed at the footage from a $1,500.00 camera like this, we live in amazing times.

Dan (and everyone),

I'll be interested to hear what battery life you get in the real world.

And will (or have) any of you tried out the battery handgrip that lets you slide in two more batteries?

And finally, I hear (but haven't been listening too widely) that --currently-- there aren't any consistently reliable third-party batteries for the X-T3 and that the Fujifilm-branded LiIon batteries are the way to go. Does that sound right?

Damn interesting camera...

Dan, keep us posted if you attempt editing the H.265 in DaVinci Resolve (with your 2017 iMac) I have a similar 2017 iMac setup.......Thanks!

This is true.

The only way to get "boost" mode in the XT-3 is to use the 126s OEM batteries.

If you can afford a powerbank in your setup, Fuji recommends these and they appear to be extend battery life quite significantly http://digital-cameras.support.fujifilm.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20151/p/8453 (I haven't used)

I've been using the Watson batteries from B&H for the last few weeks and they work in Boost mode. Battery life seems as good as the OEM based on the limited time I have had them. Using them both in the camera and in the power grip. Work fine in both. Battery life whether OEM or not plummets when using an external recorder.

Wooden camera sells a power adapter with the power converter in an inline box. Haven't got it yet but planning to get one to use with an A/B battery belt.

Same with H.265, sounds like it may or may not work well with FCP. I'll sometimes want to match the X-T3 F-Log with C200 CRL

You have to either Optimize or Proxy the H.265. Impossibly laggy native playback. I'd rather do Proxy, but FCP X has an all or nothing approach to Proxies. Clips like XF-AVC from my C200 I don't need Proxies for, but if I want Proxies for the X-T3 or Sony footage, it shows up as Media Missing unless I make Proxies of everything. If you're doing CRL, you might want Proxies anyways, although I find I can actually playback CRL files realtime.

I will be curious how you find the matching. As I have a C200 and don't own an XT-3 yet, but have only worked with the footage.

I picked up four of the Wasabi Power (IMHO, best third party batteries besides the Watsons, which are obviously good too) batteries, and two of the OAproda batteries with their cool little USB charger that actually has a good readout. So I have seven batteries total. I doubt if I will buy the grip until I need to shoot interviews, which won't be until next year. The Wasabi chargers are terrible. Going to mess with the X-T3 a bit today, might have time to shoot some tests, but I am on deadline. Why is it whenever I buy a new camera, I instantly become snowed under with existing deadlines which drags on for weeks as my new gear sits, collecting dust. Crane 2 arrives today, looking forward to a gimbal with a lot of power, the motors on my Crane 1 are very tired and can't handle a lot of angles anymore. Saw that BH had the Ronin S yesterday for the same price on sale, $200.00 at $549.00, killer deal, same as I paid for the Crane 2 but I can't see lugging the extra weight of the Ronin S for a camera as small and light as the X-T3.

I'll see how the H.265 behaves in both FCP X and Resolve, fingers crossed.

I wonder if the powers that be at DVXUser will move this thread over and start an X-T3 forum? A lot of us have bought into the X-T3, it would be good to have a dedicated place to swap tips and advice as this is a deep little camera with a lot of options and capabilities.

Hopefully I'll get them into the same neighborhood. Interesting that with my CRL, I like the Arri LUT better than any of the Canon LUTs. I wonder how the X-T3 footage would look with the Arri LUT?

The ARRI LUT has been used for every camera (ones with LOGs) since it came out...some people just slap it on and call it a day. (Exposure is important.)

Yelloish and little greenish.

Offcial "XT3_Flog_Fgamut_to_ETERNA_BT709" is the right starting point

EDIT: Maybe I was wrong. I'm just using it now (Arri LUT) on some clips and in some circumstances it is interesting, indeed

This is a loaded question since I am a tripod snob. Just got the X-T3 yesterday. Will use it on the Crane 2 quite a bit but for shooting interviews, which tripod head to get?

Keep in mind my A tripod is the Sachtler DV-6SB on the Carbon Miller Solo DV legs (LOVE but too heavy and expensive to fly with) and my B Travel tripod is the Miller AIR Head on the Miller Solo DV Aluminum legs. The Miller will work great with the X-T3 but is still a bit large and heavy for interviews for a 2lb mirrorless camera and it won't fit into overhead. Most b-roll will be shot off of gimbal I have a feeling and as we all know, for lockoffs for interviews, you don't need the best head in the world. Any pros discover a small, light but high quality tripod head combo that is small enough to strap to your camera backpack and stuff into overhead? Everyone keeps going on about the Manfrotto NITRO head but yuck, it's a Manfrotto.

I hate checking bags, the goal is on and off the plane with one backpack containing clothes, toiletries, Fuji X-T3 and a couple of lenses, Crane 2, camera batteries and tripod. I know Gitzo makes some sweet smaller and lighter carbon stuff as well as Induro but what about a decent head that is truely small and light and can handle about 4lbs max (X-T3, lens and Sound Devices Mix Pre 3) yet is Pro. No Sachtler ACE junk either, don't like them. Benro? Meh. So so build quality. Small, light and Miller/Sachtler quality but really small and light?

Which Arri LUT are you referring to ? Where did you pull it from ?

I believe it's called the 'Log C to Rec709' LUT.

I'm assuming ARRI has one available for download somewhere, but various third party companies also include it with their other Canon - Sony - Panasonic transformation LUTs (usually in a bundle). I don't remember whom the main ones are anymore - and if they are even still in business - but I do know that the LUTs have slightly differed over the years depending on who was making them.

So for example, a C-Log3 --> Rec709 LUT may have a bit more contrast from one company and a bit less from another, etc.

Sachtler flowtec 75mm.
