FTP server sites?

Most of the hosting companies provide ftp with the hosting package. You just have to go into the management console and configure it.

Keep in mind that if the files are large, FTP still might not be the way to go. Sure, the clients can download them fairly fast, but unless you are paying several hundred dollars a month for your internet service, my guess is that *your* upload speed won't be too good.

I pay extra to get 1mbps upload speed with my cable internet, and it still takes over an hour to upload a 700mb file. So it's fine for me, as I only do it occasionally. But if you plan to do it on a regular basis, it probably makes more sense to just express mail them a DVD.

If your internet connection has a decent 1Mbps up link, you can run an ftp server from home. The only draw back would be that you have to look up your IP each time since it will be changing from time to time.

Pros: You don't have to upload, just copy to the ftp folder and it's available for downloading.

Good idea. I didn't even think of suggesting that.

Of course some ISPs have no-server clauses in their service agreements-- I know that Charter (that I use) will automatically start charging you the business rate (which is like $275 a month for the 1mbps upload) if they discover you're running a server off of your residential connection.

Of course if it is only being accessed periodically, there's a good chance they won't ever notice.

I don't know. Do they ask you when you sign up with their network what do you want to do with the line? You can allow traffic from your router to ftp port and you are good to go.
Here ISPs block only peer to peer and torrent ports. I can run web, mail, dns, ftp and pay a fixed 20 euro rate for my connection.
I don't believe you will cause such a big traffic issue with a tiny ftp server, accessed a day or two. Only file sharing creates problems to ISPs.
