FS700R w/ Metabones Speedbosster ULTRA start-up problem

Just picked up the speedbooster ULTRA because I wanted to start using Canon lenses with IS (currently have a Canon 28mm IS). I currently use manual Nikons from the 1980's...which I just love!

To go along with the Speedbooster ULTRA, I've also picked up a fotodiox f-ef mount adapter, so I can use my manual Nikons, with the Speedbooster ULTRA. However, I'm noticing a slight issue.

If I attach any of my Nikons, via the fotodiox adapter to the speedbooster, attach both to my FS700, then turn on the camera, my on-board screen stays on the initial sony logo and the Speedbooster makes a continuous high-pitch sound. If i remove the speed booster/nikon assembly from the camera, the camera begins registering image right away...at which point I can then put the speed booster/nikon assembly back on and it works just fine.

To clarify, starting the camera with the f-ef-e nikon/speedbooster assembly results in FS700 sony logo permanently on the on-board screen, and the camera won't even shut off. It only shuts off if I remove the adaptor. If I turn on the camera without this assembly attached, the camera works fine, at which point I can attach the f-ef-e nikon/speedbooster assembly and everything is great.

Obviously, this does not happen with the canon lens.

I know that Metabones state on their website that they do not support this type of adaptor stacking, and so I'm not surprised that there is an issue. However, I just wanted to know if anyone out there had similar issues...and why there's an issue with camera start-up, but not attaching after camera start-up. After all, this may be an issue with just my Speedbooster.

I'm contacting Metabones as well, but thought I'd drop a line here too.
-All the best, Rafael

It's possible that the electrical contact pins are not registering/aligning to the proper position. They may even be shorting two opposite pins out. I ran into a similar issue with a Zeiss CP.2 lens. My solution was to use non conductive tape to blank off the electrical contacts. Since it's an all manual lens(aperture, focus, no stabilization), I've lost nothing.

Interesting. That sounds like it could be what's happening. But why only in start-up?

At which point in the chain did you tape? And to which object?
(example: between nikon lens and f-ef adapter, stick to lens)

Did you ever figure out the pathway of connection? I ask because the entire side of the fotodiox's adapter that touches the speed booster is plastic.
-Thanks!

I taped the metallic side of the lens body. If your lens is plastic, obviously, that's not the solution.

my fs7Q , speed booster ultra setup is not seeing start up problems. i used a zeiss cp28 , cp50ss , canon macro 1x-5x and canon 200mm , i didnt need tape yet.

Hmmm... that's weird because I've had 3 Metabones (Mark I, Mark II and Speedbooster) and I've use a Nikon to Canon adapter stacked on Metabones on all my manual Zeiss lenses and NEVER a problem. In fact, my Canon electronic aperture lenses cause more trouble in that they periodically do that freeze on Sony logo glitch that you mentioned.
