FS700 with Speedbooster focal length comparison (canon 24-105mm)

Just got my hands on the Canon 24-105mm zoom. Nice lens and will now be my general go to zoom lens when coupled with the speedbooster.

When I was researching the lens with speedbooster I couldn't really find much visual content on the difference in focal length compared to when using the normal Metabones Ef-E mount so I thought I'd put up a quick focal length comparison in case theres anyone wanting to know the same thing.

At the end theres also a quick edit from my first shoot with the canon 24-105 with speedbooster on the FS700.

Cheers

Paul

Great visual test of the difference - thanks for the effort.

I noticed quite a bit of breathing, though, @105 when you rack focused out to the water - It seemed as though the lens was zooming out as you focused to infinity.

Hi Paul, nice segment there at the end with the timed stutters too :)

i was shooting steadicam on a music video in Canberra this last weekend with an LA crew. I started on that Tokina 11-16 amount as there was no budget for bartech, plus all the teradek bolts were rented out (buying a clip when it's out) :( so potential focus issues. As the shoot progressed and there was not enough light on the concert stage I had to switch to a 24-70 2.8 canon on the speedbooster. It gave me the light I needed but sacrificed the autofocus which actually was a butt saver as there was some time crunch and the stage and shots lent themselves to more in/out than no focus adjustment and open for the light would handle every time.

ive been strongly considering the Sony Zeiss 24mm 1.8 emount to cover this off next time. I almost hit go on that new sigma 18-35 1.8mm. Dirt cheap got a few units yesterday in canon btw. But amount is not out yet so no autofocus. The canon I used on speedbooster, again no autofocus under 3.5. (And you can't set aperture manually with autofocus left on). (You can leave autofocus off, hit the focus button to rack it in, and keep aperture open on manual).

so near as I can tell, wide open, low light and autofocus, the 24 1.8 emount is it?

have you had much experience with wide and low light on your Fs, autofocus required (no remote ff) any other lens suggestions for that situ?

Cheers

Thanks for the comment Scott, Just thought some people who might be considering the lens might find it useful!

Timmytimetravel: Hows it going mate? Hows the 'Berra? I was planning a couple of trips over to Perisher this winter but when I went up in late July the snow wasn't that good so I haven't bothered.

Regarding your question, about a wide low light with autofocus, I would say emount would be your go. I have the tokina in A-mount which I'm pretty sure (??) has autofocus? I have never used teh autofocus on the wide but At 11mm on F.2.8 It's super wide and wonderful looking on steadicam and with the sensor on the FS700 coupled with f2.8 It's pretty good with low light. If you want to know whether you can get Autofocus I can go and have a look for you, just let me know. (I'm actually looking to sell the Tokina 11-16mm A-mount and pick up the lens in canon mount).

Cheers

Hey Paul. Yes I have the 11-16 in amount, does autofocus. In this case it just wasn't fast enough.
I'll keep for everything with some light as it's a great lens (autofocus is noisy non Ssm tho). If you get that in a canon then you gain a stop with a speedbooster, but lose af.

ill hit go on that Zeiss.

have you considered the new sigma 18-35 instead of the Tokina. Not quite as wide, and not full frame, but sucks in some light at a good price ;)
