FS700 version confusion

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of picking up a used FS700 but I'm confused on the versions(U,UK,R,RH).

I know that the big difference between the U and R is the 4K raw upgrade. If I buy a U version would I still be able to record 4K raw to an external recorder? Or do I have to update it?

Thanks.

The U version requires the 4K update if it hasn't had it already. I would check with seller and make sure it has the 4K firmware update, if not, you'll have to send to Sony to update.

U = original US version (needs paid update to be 4K capable)
UK = same as above but with kit lens (non motorised 18-200).
R = the newer model that has the 4K upgrade already done at factory.
RH = same as above but with kit lens (the 18-200 power zoom).

E and EK = Europe versions of U and UK.

If you get the U for more than $400 CAD less, than I guess it's worth it. When I was shopping I missed out on some R's, but found a U that had 27 hours of recording time on it for 4k CAD. I bought that in October last year (now could be cheaper maybe as much as 1k). There were other R's for $4600, but I decided I'd just take the lightly used one for less and take it to Sony in Toronto (uptown on gordon baker rd) and just get them to do the upgrade.

After that I bought an O7Q and now here we are.
