FS700 PP settings and O7Q - what settings affect the 4K2HD image?

Title says it really.

Most of my work will probably make use of the 4K2HD mode and most likely from my tests so far, using SLog2. Does anyone else find the REC709 image just too saturated and contrasty? With a very small tweak to contrast and a bit dollop of saturation, the SLog2 image looks great to me.

1) So, apart from the obvious 709/SLog2 settings in the picture profile on the FS700, what other settings have any affect on the O7Q 4K2HD recorded image?

2) Why WOULDN'T you use SLog2 in this mode for the majority of the time?

Thanks,

Paul.

If I remember correctly, Mitch said that anything other than Rec709 and Slog2 will yield strange contrast/color results, so you'll need to stick to one of those two.

Slog2 two will give you more flexibility and looks great but there are a lot of shooters who show up on set and drop off footage at the end of the day (never to see or touch it again). Sometimes on these projects, the client/editor/etc expects the image to have more of a baked in look. There are also a lot of shooters that have really tight turnarounds on projects and the time it takes to apply/render color effects for all the footage adds a lot of unnecessary hours to the project.

So to answer your question: You WOULD use Slog2 a majority of the time--if your workflow allows it.

Thanks Josh.

Yes I normally edit all my footage. Just wondering if there were any other technical reasons why you might not use SLog2?

anyone know if any of the other PP settings affect the O7Q in 4K2HD mode?

Well I just tried changing all of the settings in the picture profile whilst monitoring with the O7Q and with the WFM on - none of the settings apart from the actual REC709 or SLog2 setting made any difference at all to the image on the O7Q. I guess that makes sense.

Of course, if you're dual recording, it will have an effect on the internal AVCHD images.
