Hi

I have forgotten what the current status of the 100fps 4k/uhd prores recording was. Is this looking like it will make it into the 7Q units, or is it already there via a normal playback record from the buffer?

We talked so much about 100fps uhd prores a year ago. Ive just forgotten if it made it onto the units, or if it is still under development, or abandoned completely.

Appearently, its just like recording 50fps, just that the FS700 is sending out alot of weird signals that tells the 7Q to stop recording. I think it was something like that.

In general, any hint of what I'd being worked on next for the 7Q?

* two days later i see auto correct put "I'd" rather than "is" *

It's a lot more complicated then that. This is something that we are currently working on. No timetable right now.

I just got an email saying high speed compressed is on the time table for may release. Is this 100fps 2K/HD, or 100fps 4K?

Please note that 960fps is not output from the FS700 and is therefore not possible. The camera achieves this internally by first halving the resolution to reach 480p and then quartering the resolution to reach 960p. The results are only usable for technical imaging and perhaps a small online window.

Top available frame rates for given resolutions on the FS7 and FS700 are 4K60p and 2K240p.

Please note that the roadmap does not state what frame rates will be included.

Yeah, we know!

I keep wanting to sell the FS7Q0, but 4K100p ProRes makes me want to keep it, for a personal project this summer.

Is RAW not a workable solution for you?

I've shot 50 fps 4k RAW continuously as well as record the 100fps bursts. You can transcode it to ProRes after the fact. Sure it's a bit of a longer way round but it's doable. 2K RAW is even lighter as well.

cheers

The price of media makes it unwanted for me. Hiking 10-50hours into the mountains only to shoot for a few minutes is not really feasible.

The raw is just too big.

I shot in the mountains the past weekend and worked quite a bit with the 4K RAW 120fps bursts. I think it came out mazing and hiking it around was fairly easy, see below. PW is atlas.

Nice shot 'travelsthroughimages'. I'd be very interested to hear of the whole process you went though, from the burst 4K raw acquisition, transcoding, etc with the 7Q. File sizes, time taken, details please! I'm about to purchase a 7Q+ shortly. Thank you!

Thanks for the responses guys, all in all the process was pretty easy for me and was actually pretty quick. We were shooting this outside Mt. Bachelor, OR for a 2015 campaign and of course wanted some really good slow motion that we could crop on if necessary. I will do my best to explain the process, however I am a bit new when it comes to all of this stuff. Shot with a an FS700 O7Q with a metabones speedbooster and Canon 24-70 Version II. When I upload all of the clips I take the raid files and combine them into one folder, doing this can be a bit tedious at times however it makes the process in post easier for me. Once the folders have all 440 clips in them i open up Resolve, set the project configurations to UHD and start editing the clip. I used this video below to help me with the process:

In resolve the extent of what I did was change the white balance, up the saturation, and bring down the midtones. After that I made a new timeline, drug the clip into it, then went to render it. I have an iMac with 32GB of RAM so it took about 90 seconds to render and there you have it. Hope that helps!
