FS700 handle won't completely tighten

The handle on my FS700 won't 100% tighten onto the camera or the extension handle I have from Westside AV. It's very secure when tightened but never fully stops, it just keeps turning and turning making a grinding noise. My guess is the rosette on the handle is worn down. Anyone else have this problem? I'm going to contact Sony for a replacement, but if anyone else has an option I'm all ears.

Yup. Exact same 'problem' - although I've never pulled the rosette off because, well, it still works just fine.

can you turn the handle or are you talking about the wing bolt that tightens the handle to the camera? If so, it's possible that the glue between the bolt and the wing part came loose/broke. Happened to me as well, i just took some epoxy and glued it together again...

it's the wing bolt that won't tighten completely. It doesn't seem loose, but I'll take it apart and give it a shot. It turns out Sony won't sell the rosette wheel individually. You have to buy the complete handle again.

You can buy the thumb screw (rosette style) in almost any good hardware store or McMasterCarr. The 700 was a ¼-20.

Here is a link, just measure the length and get the right thread, I am not in the studio now so I can't give you the exact spec:

You may have to file some of the threads off next to the head, this is easy with a small metal file or turn them off on a metal lathe. I don't know if that screw has reduced shaft up top.

Anyway this is only a few $$s.

I have the same thing. The knob keeps turning. But the handle is on tight and doesn't move. I haven't looked in to fixing it, because it's working fine. Just feels odd that the knob won't stop. Glad to see a solution. Thanks.

Yeah sounds like a cracked plastic knob. I pulled it off and put some glue in there to seal the crack and stuck it to the screw. Basically it's just a flimsy plastic knob around a screw head with only fine teeth connecting them together. If the teeth strip or the knob cracks the teeth of the knob won't tighten the screw when you turn it.
