Hi,

My FS700's handles thumbscrew broke today, the plastic part lost it's gearing. It's not covered under warranty so I wonder where could I find a new one for a moderate price. Anyone have any spares? I bet the official Sony route will be quite expensive...

You don't need the thumbscrew, try to fix it with your finger or use a tool. Works also fine.

It lost it's gearing but didnt crack? So it stays on but just turns? Well you could just glue it onto the metal screw so it doesn't come off or lose hold again :)

That's definitely one of the flimsiest parts of the camera, bound to break eventually, but fortunately plastic is easy to glue and worst case I imagine you might be able to get by without it...

Mine broke, the plastic cracked and I need something to turn the screw underneath (without
the thumbscrew, it's just a metal end and I can't turn it, it's too tight). So I am also
looking to see if I can find the part number for the plastic thumbscrew, or some sort of
alternative. Until I do, the side handle is stuck in one position, and I can't rotate it.

You really need a tool to turn it without the plastic thumbscrew which is not ideal. I doubt gluing the thumbscrew on to the metal would hold very long since the gearing is worn out from the plastic? But might give it a try anyways, let's see what Sony says the price of a new thumbscrew is, I bet it's around 50 euros + 80 euros postage! :D

happened to me too and I just used epoxy to mend the crack and it works like normal. Now I use less force when tightening...

Same thing happened to the rubber piece in the mic shockmount. I take good care of my camera and those pieces are so poorly designed, so I'd be surprised if anyone owned the camera for 2 years and DIDN'T have both those parts break.
