FS700 - great handling of bright whites - SloMo isn't so bad either.

I've been shooting a river documentary for the last 11 months with an AF100 and today went back to big water (2000 CFS) with a bright mid-day sun.

Looks like I'll be re-shooting several high water/big drop locations with the FS700 based on early results from today's shoot.

240fps was sweet but what really impressed me was the bright white handling capability of this camera. All footage is ungraded and shot with Cine1 gamma, all else neutral 0 settings.

Also impressed with Cine2 ability to drop to 320ISO. Cine4 is next test.

Scott

Great looking footage. I have to say, Cinegamma 1 seems like the all around best. Really protects those highlights and just great dynamic range. I'm no pro, but i'm reluctant to use anything else.

Might use Cinegamma 4 in instances where whites aren't as much of a concern.

I haven't seen any improvement over the FS100.

I have been shooting Yachts in the midday sun for a client and the FS100 handles whites superbly well. I can keep white detail and not lose anything in the blacks.

I'm still waiting to be blown away by the FS700 and not keep seeing the over use of slo-mo. I might have to wait for the RAW recording to see any real difference between the FS100 and 700 as the 8 bit AVCHD bucket seems to be the limiting factor.

Hi Scott, mind explaining this one? If you put the FS700 on gain setting does it allow you to go to negative gain or something?

Haven't read anything about this in any other post but Cine1 has a minimum ISO of 400, Cine2 is 320, Cine3 is 500 and Cine4 is 640.

Yep, and if you switch to gain and compare ISOs and gain, 0 dB is always the same as the lowest possible ISO regarding to the PP used. So no negative gain. Question is, what is the native ISO of the camera? I´m concerend to waste dynamic range by going to low.
