FS700 and slow-motion time limit

Hello,
I am interested in shooting live events in high fps.
How can I cope with the time limitation of 9 sec in 1080p/240fps mode ?
Is it a card-writer limitation ? Can I record via HD-SDI to external recorder without time limit ?
Or else can I record another 9sec right after the first 9sec with a small gap ?

Also is there sound in 240fps mode?
 
Live events at high fps with this camera is not going to work unless you have theFs700 3.0 firmware upgrade and an external recorder to record continuous 240fps footage.
The only choice right now is Sony's off board recording solution which costs as much as the camera again! Convergent Design are on the cusp of releasing their Oddysey 7Q field monitor/recorder which is capable of writing 240fps raw continuous to two proprietary SSD's in raid.

If all you have is the fs700 then you'll be in for some long waits between recording and you'll be sure to miss things in a live scenario.
Once you get your 8 seconds worth of footage, it takes roughly 4.25 times as long as this to write the buffer to the SD card.

So from the moment the clip stops recording after the 8 seconds, the camera is completely unusable for about 34 seconds or until you press cancel on the write.

There is no sound in super slow motion. The histogram function is also unavailable.

Sony's and Convergent Design's solution are the only two able to record 240fps continous at this stage.
 
I don't own the camera yet, so I am looking for the right model.
Is NEX-FS700R the right model that has the capability of infinite recording 1080/240p on card ?

As far as we know, the camera won't have this capability. You will need an external recorder to accomplish constant 240fps.
 
As far as I know you will be able to record high frame rates with the Sony F55 and can already do it with the Red Epic, Phantom and other expensive cameras. I don't think there are any cheaper cameras that can record those frame rates in 1920x1080 (or higher) at the moment.
 
what about the current model (firm.3.0) ? can it record on card infinitely 1080/50p ?
Does this format have sound & histogram? Is it considered Super Slow Motion ?

I need high frame rate in 1080p material to record live sports where the motion analysis is a strong aim.
50fps is not bad at all considering there is no competition for now.
I ve also heard that all low cost HDMI recorders can't pass 1080/50p. Is this true for ninja2 and shuttle2 ?

You going to have massive data shooting a whole event in 240fps. Traditionally, high frame rates always are recorded in bursts and focus on special moments.
I personally use the 60fps to 24fps internal convert within the FS700 to shoot longer pieces. Everything is even slower than half speed which looks beautiful.
If you want to do more than that you have to get external recorders with Terabytes of storage.
 
The Odyssey7Q can record 2K RW coninously at 240fps from the FS700. Current available SSD memory is 1 Terabyte (2x 512G SSDs). This yeilds 20 minutes of sustained recording time.

For the future we are working on a compressed file format that will be able to capture 240fps continuously, and this will dramatically increase the available record time, perhaps tenfold. Compressing well at 240fps is not easy, but we're working on it.
 
Well, my only "close-to-cinema" system for now is my D800 with 35mm/1.4 and 85mm/1.4 Ai-S fixed on LanParte rig.
So any suggestions about another system of 1080/50p capabilities are welcomed. (how about the new sony A7 ? )
 
Even the old FS100 can record full HD 50p and 60p internally and continuously (but in AVCHD at 28 mbps). So can the NEX-7 or 6 still cameras.
