Hey everyone,
I just shot my first project fully on the FS7Q combo, and nearly finished up with grading. I'm actually extremely happy with the result, and thought I'd show some screens.
Personally I love pushing the contrast and whites (especially highlights and adding a glow) for my "look", so this project was no different.
I did however see how much I can retain in a high contrast setting and how it would all turn out.
My workflow was creating flat Prores 422 HQs out of Resolve (using the CD slog2 out) and then editing/cutting in FCPX. For color, i used the Denver Riddle's LUTility (using the Alexa Log to Rec709, which gave me the perfect starting point), adding a slightly tweaked graded rom mLooks 3 (can't remember the name), finally adding a Film Glow from BCC8.
Working off the 422s retained all the color info i needed. The only thing with this is that the white balance must must MUST be correct coming of the DNGs. I was off by about 300 kelvin on my first pass and a very large amount of color was gone. So something this minor needs to be done properly, even though the actual log files you can't see that minor difference. I simply added a node with another LUT to test it out in Resolve and then set white balance that way.
Anyhow, here's some screens.
