I've been searching and haven't found very specific answers, so I thought I'd ask. My FS700 is currently @ Sony getting the 3.0 Firmware upgrade. I have a BMD Hyperdeck Shuttle 2. My question is this: what (if any) advantages over 2.0 does this bring me in regards to recording with the Hyperdeck Shuttle 2? Besides recording in SLog2, are there any advantages? From what I can gather, the output of the FS700 still remains @ 8-bit through SDI out - can anyone confirm or deny this? I know the Odyssey 7Q can record the higher resolutions/4K, but is there any gained advantage without either the Sony or Odyssey recorders?
I'm pretty sure SDI out on the FS700, no matter which firmware version, is always going to be 8-bit unless you are using the Odyssey or R5 recorders. Also, in terms of bits, 8-bit is 4:2:0, correct? 10-bit is 4:2:2, and 12-bit is 4:4:4, correct? So, if this is correct, 4:2:2 is impossible on the FS700 without the Odyssey or R5, because the SDI out only can do 8-bit unless connected to the R5 or Odyssey.
Thanks in advance for helping me get all this straight in my head.
