Hi everybody,

When I use the lightest version of my FS7 (without XDCA, with BPU-30 battery, with a very light lens : Nikon 35mm or 50mm, without magnifying glass...), I think the weight is about 3 Kg.

My question is... Do you think The new Ronin-M can be use with this light version of the FS7 ? The load weight for the ronin-M is 3,6 kg.

And what do you think of this new version of the ronin ?

Thank you very much

I think it still might be pushing it and that you wouldn't get the best results from that combination. I am in the process of sending my Defy G5 back to the US to be uprated for use with the FS7. Will report back on how this goes.

You would probably be pushing it with the Ronin-M, plus you wouldn't be able to add things like remote follow focuses and what not. Even with the lighter Ronin-M, you probably will still need a vest for any kind of extended move.

I think the better idea is just to stick with the regular Ronin, pick up a cheap vest like the single rod setup that Atlas Camera System makes for $480 dollar, then you can hold the Ronin for a long time. Also, I picked up these $50 knock off arm extension that work amazing. Now I can add a follow focus to my Ronin if needed.

Yes, there's a few pound weight penalty, but the you are safer overall with the regular Ronin and don't have to stress about weight limits.

It's not just the issue weight you have to account for, its the overall dimensions of the camera that will likely prohibit you from properly balancing it. The biggest camera I see going on the Ronin-M is a c100 without the side grip, top/bottom plates.

Ronin-M tray dimensionse:

7.67 inches tall (disqualifies fs7)
4.7 inches deep (disqualifies fs7)
6.3 inches wide

I'd add to the above that physical dimensions are the biggest restriction, you need full movement around. The M really is designed for dSLRs and it's a fantastic price for that.

I've a Helix Jr, but i'm not running a large camera on it, same sort of reason. Weight wise it can handle it but not enough room. However in the Jr case because of the way it works, less need for a vest as the holding position is closer to the body. I've seen Epics on the Jr work no problem, the FS7 and 700 are just too long though.

Of course feel for this lot:

and the guy with the backpack, but cool set up

Hello,
Just do it...
It's working just fine
Actually, you need a large battery more to balance on the back and make sure you have the extension little 15mm tube on the ronin to get the full setup a bit lower.
It's a great setup and solution if you know which lens to use.

YES, the Ronin M is easy to pack in a light bag (almost same size than the led panel) and It's part of my kit for almost all my single camera operator job.

Feel free to ask me question about this setup.
You can even use the handle from the FS7, so remove one handle and control menu on the FS7, start stop recording and others.
I can't be more happy
