FS7: FS7 + SWIT battery D-Tap adapter -- 3D printed

Olof from WestSide AV designed (and shared!) a his Mini D-Tap that works for the FS7 and SWIT batteries, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of making "mini" versions of all my cables (or needlessly cutting up my nice D-tap cables to make them all "mini"). So I spent the last couple days designing, printing, re-designing and refining an adapter that clips onto the SWIT S-8U63 D-tap. I'm really happy with the design, I'm no product engineer but I've kept it pretty compact while allowing enough room for the necessary components.

I originally split this thing up a few different ways but they were all posing issues with it came time to assemble it with all the pins and parts inside. I think this way will work the best. I came up with a fun little conical dovetail-style joint for the end of the male D-tap connector, so the single screw holding the two main pieces together actually squeezes the dovetail on small D-tap piece, keeping it fastened. I may change this to a wider dovetail (stronger connection to the d-tap piece).

It's really low profile, so it doesn't really stick out any further than the back of the camera does. And it really does "clip" on, I could shake the battery by the adapter and it held on. Nice and snug.

This screw will be flush on the final, and I'm tweaking my 3D print settings to see how I can optimize these prints.

So I've had several people ask about buying these. I'm ordering the pins to make a few, but the pins alone are about $13 for this thing. Let me know if you're interested in buying one and I'll work on pricing (thinking about $60 right now, plus shipping).

Also, in the same spirit as Olof, I will be sharing the STL file if you're interested in printing your own and providing your own pins, wiring, etc. Once I make some more tweaks and I'm happy with the results, I'll post the adapter to Thingiverse.

Josh it looks like your cam has some serious chest hair there. Congrats on its journey to manhood. :)

On a serious note I really like the design of this thing. I've been eyeing some of the new Swit Bats for the dtap port.

haha, just a little Velcro on the plastic cover (you can never have too many places to mount stuff!). But I'll let it know that you like the au naturel look!
