FS7: FS7 sometimes not turning on with Speedbooster

Every now and then my FS7 won't turn on. The lights on by the XQD cards lights up, but screen stays dark. Nothing works. The camera has power, but seems to lose it or the lights go off by the cards at least.

First time I me I don't know how I fixed it. I just took everything apart and put it back. Second time I took the Speedbooster off the camera, turned camera on and put Speedbooster back on and it worked. That day I had to do it a few times. Last times I've used my camera I've had no issues at all.

Any ideas?

Everything seems fine. It's a mystery

I know from experience that the Lanc remote port can confuse the camera if it gets short circuited. There are suggestions that the lens port also uses lanc for zoom control. So, I assure you, on multiple levels, an electrical short circuit is the likely issue. If this issue doesn't happen when your speedbooster is not used, and does happen when you attach the speed booster... that's your issue.

Now, if the contacts don't show a visual short circuit, there might be one inside the speedbooster. Your speedbooster has a microcontroller in it. It's possible something is malfunctioning there...

Sounds reasonable. I can´t repeat the problem, but it has happened on two different occasions. The Speedbooster is most likely the culprit, but it will be hard to get a replacement when I can´t repeat the problem.

No. Not since I got it. It's rented out over the weekend so I can't do much until Sunday night. Thanks though.

Reason #4,987 not to use anything from metabones.. Especially for professional work

Theres no alternatives.

I have personally only had one issue in 3 years. I guess certain RED cameras have more issues than that in the same time period, and they are definetly used professionally.

I have the Commlite adapter and a Camdiox 'dumb' focal reducer to use with my Canon mount-adapted manual lenses. All seems to work fine. Had to return my Metabones because it wouldn't fit some Canon adapted lenses.

So do you use FD glass then? I have on 28-85 that is re fitted to eos and de clicked, but it is really hard to get on and off the metabones. How else do you control the iris with a dumb adapter?

As for RED cameras and failures: over the 4.5 years using my EPIC-M I never had an issue on set or location. And I have even ran beta firmware quite often. I have had to re start the camera a couple of times when running beta firmware.

No I use Contax Zeiss glass modded with Leitax semi-permanent EF Mounts. All my glass has a manual iris. Sorry, I should have said that. The Commlite has electronics for if I need to use an electronic lens, although that is incredibly rare for me.

Had a similar issue today. The f-stop was present in the screen, and the numbers changed when I moved the wheel, but the aperture itself didn't change. I tried another metabones Ultra on my camera and that worked fine so I think my unit is faulty

After more testing before I was planning to go back to the place I bought it. As a last thing I re did the "advanced mode" set up and now it seems to work properly again.
Maybe I should have thought about this before.

Yes, i have used advanced mode for years. Green mode is more for the NEX E-mount stills cameras from Sony.

The thing was, I was already in advanced mode. I set it up the day I got it. I had to go through the procedure again to make it work properly. I'm just writing this so if anyone gets the same problem hopefully it can help them
