FS7: FS7 recording to a BlackMagic Video Assist

Have a series of dual-cam interviews that must be recorded in 1080/24p ProRes, & Production has requested I record on their brand new BlackMagic Video Assist(s).

They've asked that I use the GH4, & I will test the combo, but hoping to use the FS7, at least for A-Cam. I'm hesitant to rely on the Video Assist, & will record internally too, likely in each camera's native codec. Also hoping to compare internal ProRes by utilizing the FS7's extension back, but depending on schedule, may not. Unfortunately the 7Q, & PIX-E, are not options at this point.

Since the November firmware update the Video Assist is supposedly able to be triggered by Record Run Timecode over SDI, & HDMI.

Wonder if anyone has experience with either of these combos, or just general thoughts?

Thanks,
Bern

You could record just internal XAVC as a back up.. and do a transcode in Cat Browse to Prores.. if needed afterwards if things go awry with the BM VA..

Thanks Donny.

Do hope to record internally as well since recorders give me The Fear. In addition to the DIT & Editor we already had coming to set we now have have a second Editor to handle transcoding if needed.

Test is happening in a couple hours & suspect I'll be stuck with the GH4s.

Ok well sounds like there will be plenty of people on set to help out .. shame you have a FS7 but have to shoot with a GH4s.. !! off topic.. but for a few years now I changed to only shooting with my own camera.. you,d be surprised how many productions will give in :).. its a gamble.. I have lost some shoots.. but with the extra money from all the others that I get with my camera,it more than makes up the lost income .. I have an F5 but I must thank the popularity of the Fs7 for getting XAVC and wider acceptancy of the F cam,s.. so thanks you guys !
