FS7: FS7 Output Format SDI and HDMI Interlace question

Hi Friends,

When the FS7 is set to 1920 x 1080, I have the option to output a signal via HDMI and SDI (I wish this were the case for UHD) and I can send signal to my SmallHD 702 SDI and my cheapo Nyrius Aries Pro HDMI wireless transmitter.

When I go under: Video > Output Format > SDI = 1920 x 1080i (2-3PD) HDMI = 1920 x 1080i (2-3PD). The signal is listed as 1080i (Interlace).

This just means that the output to to SmallHD and the Nyrius is INTERLACED, correct?

The signal that is being recorded to the XQD cards is still PROGRESSIVE, correct? Obviously want to avoid recording an interlaced signal.

Also, what does the (2-3PD) mean?

Thanks

I'm sure someone more technical will jump in - but yes, my understanding is that to feed both sdi & hdmi output at the same time on the FS7, interlace is the only option (if you turn off one in the menu your output options change. You are still recording progressive internally - assuming you've got your codec set to 23.98p. And PD stands for pulldown - google this to learn more - but essentially the signal adds 2:3 pulldown to convert / interpret that 24 frame progressive signal into a NTSC 29.97 one - to feed to monitors

Video output mode will not modify your record mode setting. Available video output modes change based on the selected record mode. Interlace video output will not change a internal record mode from progressive to interlace. It would affect external recording though.

(2-3PD) is short hand for 2-3 Pulldown, which is the standard method of converting 23.98p to 29.97. Try to avoid recording content that has had a 2-3 Pulldown applied, but it'll work fine for monitors.
