F5: FS7: New Firmware

Just a quick update regarding the Commilte adapter with the new firmware.

It's now 1/8th of a turn to each iris stop very fast. The display in the viewfinder is updating much quicker too. Totally usable :)

Will try my Speedbooster Ultra shortly to compare.

If they can just ship the bl***y camera. I want mine before x-mas, please....
Anyway, thanks for the update on the firmware

I was also quite frustrated waiting on my pre-ordered Fs7. I made some calls and was able to find one from a small dealer. I think that if you play sleuth and call around you will be able to find someone who has one in stock. The thread on "Fs7 availability" may provide you with some leads. You won't find the Fs7 "kit" ( body & lens ) but you should be able to find someone who has the Fs7 sans the FE zoom lens. Keep trying the dealers who say they don't have one. I was able to obtain my Fs7 as a result of someone canceling their pre-order.

As to the grip control and the speed of the iris change, a possible solution is to make the dial spring-loaded so that it's more like the zoom rocker. Make it variable, if possible. ( sorry, I know I have harped on this repeatedly on this forum. )

The first aftermarket company to come out with an iris control for EF glass that is infinitely variable wins a big prize. Maybe that just isn't possible and the iris on the EF glass will be stepped no matter what. An interesting approach is the lens adapter that has it's own iris thus taking the iris in the EF lens out of the equation. I suspect that there are problematic issues with this approach in terms of optical quality and such.

The ultimate solution in regard to iris control is a mechanical iris ring on the lens, like the big boys have. Or, in order words, a "real" lens for motion imaging and not a still photo lens that is adapted for video. The prices for such lenses as they stand now are out of reach for many. At least the Sony FE zoom has an iris ring on the lens. We would all like that zoom to be wider and faster, but it is what it is.

I am curious to see what impact the new software has upon the Commlite adapter for EF glass, if any. The Commlite was already 4x as fast as the Metabones. I'll perform the update shortly and report the result.

I'm a little confused after reading about lockups and delays- Does the Speedbooster Ultra Canon to E mt now work properly with the new firmware? No more iris flashing open?

thanks ,
Is the actual aperture changing in 1/3 or 1/6 stop increments . I realize it will only read 1/3 stops, but sometimes the iris actually changes twice per readout change.

! click of the iris wheel is 1/6 stop.
It's the perfect balance when you ask me...

The display has a small lag (approx 1/2s) but
it works as it should. No complaints here with
Smart Adapter MKII and Speedbooster.
In the end, it will depend on your lens also.
