FS7: FS7 Monitor Output & 24fps

Hey Guys

I've noticed with the FS7 - if you record 4K @ 24p... the output don't go into a 1080i monitor (I have a small Marshall).
If I choose 4k @ 29.97 or 59.98 .. then it WILL display on my monitor. From what I've read, it has something to do with fields and the monitor being able to take what it needs from 29.97 and 59.98, but it cant with 23.98.

So my question is... Can I set the camera to 29.97 (so my monitor works), and then use S&Q to set the framerate to 23.98 so it matches everything else that is shot at 23.98 (without this S&Q work around)
Any drawbacks (other than no audio)?
Any insight?

Thanks!

SDI or HDMI? If HDMI, I've been shooting 4K/24P for the last 60 days while running out to a monitor. The output had to be set to 1080i, not 1080P, for it to work.

Its HDMI yeah (sorry should have specified)
I have it set to record 24p ... output settings lets me choose 24p out (or UHD/4K out). None of which my monitor is able to display.
If i change to 30p recording, then it will work on my monitor.

PSF seems to only be an option for SDI out (HDMI only monitor unfortunately)

I pointed this out to Sony 2 years ago (with the F55) and they have more or less come back and indicated there is no way for them to apply a 2-3 pull to convert 24fps to 60i to support legacy monitors or devices.

This is why your monitor works when the camera is in 29.97p, 25p and 60p modes (because they are compatible with 50i and 60i) but not 24p. The F5 and FS7 have this same problem.

Very few models with the ability to take updates via firmware have made updates to support PSF, but since MANY external monitors can't be updated or the manufacturer has chosen not to worry about, it means the only solution is to get a new monitor that supports 24 PSF.

Not good news, but this is the history just so you're aware. :(

Sounds amazing, heh.
Would using S&Q to change the framerate to 24 (while camera is in 29.97) cause some kind of strange results? I might give that a go.
I know it wont record audio, but thats what the sound guy is for :)

Yeah - there are some limits to what outputs are available, particularly at 4k. It hasn't burned me personally, but I did have to do tech support for a set that was using an older Marshall monitor, a Small DP monitor, and a Paralinx Arrow Plus wireless transmitter. None were happy with the HDMI output options when the camera was in 4k recording mode. The Small DP monitor had acknowledged compatibility issues (on the manufacturer website), but for the Marshall and Paralinx it came down to not supporting the progressive HDMI frames. They were able to use the Small DP and Marshall with SDI, but their plan to gimbal the camera and use the Paralinx for wireless video village hit a hard choice: lose the wireless monitor and shoot 4k, or shoot that scene in 1080 to keep monitoring. They didn't have the time to rent alternate options. So, always do a gear check! Particularly if you're combining gear from multiple vendors. Test for issues.

We haven't run into this problem because we're using an Odyssey 7Q+. We take 4k HDMI out of the camera and the Odyssey receives it and sends a 1080p SDI signal to a client monitor.

I have the same issue with my cheapy HDMI monitor I use for focus and framing. It looks like I need to buy a new monitor for 4K monitoring but unfortunately its not in the budget so it will be a rental item (with testing) for 4K client shoots.
