FS7: FS7 lens adapter preference for Nikon G series

Hi guys, new to the forum and just became the owner of an FS7. Very excited. Quick question - what are people's preference of adapter when using the FS7 with Nikon G lenses (14-24, 24-70, 70-200)? I'm not currently after a speed booster - just a manual aperture control on the adapter itself.

From reading I've narrowed it down to 3 or 4 choices:

- Novoflex
- Metabones
- Fotodiox
- Fotga

Anyone have any experience with these, advice or what are you guys using?

Also with lenses of this size and weight (roughly 1-1.5kg) are people using rod support or finding the mount solid enough to deal without?

Thanks.

Metabones all day every day.

IMO the aperture ring with cam lever is the smoothest and most easy to operate and "calibrate" (ie it has numeric marks that you can match to a given f-stop). It does require minor shimming to make parfocal lenses truly parfocal, but so do all the others. Locking system is solid.

Novoflex is good, but their aperture control is more direct and touchy.

Fotodiox and Fotga are fine for simple dumb adapters with legacy lenses with their own aperture rings, but the aperture-controlling versions are pretty freaking horrible in use, and the locking systems require constant adjustment to keep lenses from wobbling in the mount.

I have the MTF and the Metabones adapters. I like the look and rigidity of the MTF adapter but the aperture control is very fiddly. The Metabones has much better aperture control.
For lens support, I don't use any unless I use something like my 80-200 (which is a heavy beast), at which point I would normally double support it, support on the Metabones and the tripod foot. You don't have to double support it, putting one on the tripod foot will do, I'm just a little over cautious.

Hope this helps.

Thanks epicdream. Yeah nothing wrong with being over cautious I imagine it's a bit of a tank. I've not really used additional supports/brackets before - I would think something relatively cheap and sturdy on amazon should do the trick?

..yeah +1 for the Metabones here...i had the MTF one, & it wasn't a tight fit with my Sigma 18-35 f1.8 (although was fine with some older Nikor primes). It wasn't just a disconcerting wobble, when it slipped it affected the aperture . Got the Metabones one & its been fine....still a *tiny* bit of looseness with that lens, but does't affect the image in any way.

Try SmallRig stuff, it's pretty solid for the money and they do a couple of nice lens supports.
