FS7: FS7 Grading Workflow

Intrigued to hear everyone's workflow.

I tend to use Premier for a lot of grading, as a lot of stuff I do doesn't require Resolve.

Do people tend to load a Technical LUT first i.e. 2_SGamut3CineSLog3_To_LC-709TypeA.cube in the BASIC CORRECTION tab, and then add a creative LUT after this in the CREATIVE tab?

Please let us know your thoughts and processes?

I like to add two lumetri effects. The first level is only used for Pre-LUT white balance adjustments and then the second has the SGamut3CineSLog3_To_LC-709TypeA applied and also where I do some tone and saturation adjustments. I find that I almost always have to crush the blacks and add some saturation with the above mentioned LUT. I also apply sharpening and vibrance in the creative tab.
 
Everyone is going to give you a different way but for what it's worth my 2 are:

In Resolve, stick the rec709 lut on the final node and make corrections beforehand. This allows you to change the lut at the end for other outputs without messing any corrections and also means you aren't artificially clamping your signal before you've worked on it.

In faster premiere projects I add the lut and then adjust black point, highlights then colour balance with the wheels.

May I inquire why you elect to use a LC (low contrast) version of the rec709 lut simply to then add the contrast back? Sounds like a regular REC709 LUT might be a better starting point if that's the look you're after

Sorry I wasn't making the distinction between the typeA and the regular (just copied and pasted the original post). I use the regular REC709.
