FS7: FS7: Convert 59.97 into 23.976 in camera?

Can you have the FS7 convert 59.97 into 23.976 in camera?

Kind of like how when you record HFRs at say 120fps and it automatically converts it to 23.976 fps for you in camera?

Right now, 59.97 just stays at 59.97.

I know on the FS700 you could convert 59.97 to 23.976 in camera and it was really convenient for playback and saved a step in post.

Sounds like you're not engaging 60fps the right way. Don't change your base recording from 23.976 to 59.97. Instead, hit the S&Q button and then just make sure in your menu settings (where you set full scan and do 72-180fps, set it to normal, which tops out at 60fps). and it should keep it at a base rate of 23.976. Keep in mind that you don't get audio recording this way.

Also, note the S&Q is unavailable with XDCAM 422 mode shooting. Only XAVC. So if you're doing base recording is XDCAM, you'll need to move to XAVC for S&Q overcranking.

I see. The reason I set the base to 60 fps is because that allows you to keep the monitoring LUT which is really nice. With S&Q, the LUT vanishes. I'm hoping for both.

Gene, I agree Luts in both S&Q and regular mode would be ideal. I also find it to be a big waste of time that LUTS aren't re-enabled automatically when switching back to regular mode from S&Q. You have to go back into the menu, disable and enable LUTS for it to initialize again. It's hard to complain because it's such a powerful camera for the price but it's the little UI things that are preventing it from being on a whole different level for me.....I really hope Sony is taking notes.

As powerful as the FS7 is, I'm not a fan of the UI and how they enable LUTs. We worked desperately hard on the integration of LUTs in the Odyssey7Q+ for just this reason.

Gene, you could always use our LUT system as well as record on the Odyssey in Apple ProRes. You can keep your native frame rates even if you record 59.94 for use as 23.97. Just set the system rate to 23.97 instead of Follows Input. We always capture all your frames, but the time base is set to play it back as 23.97.
