FS7: FS7 + A7SII sync with Pluraleyes

Hello everyone,

I am having major issues syncing my FS7 and A7SII footage using Pluraleyes 3.5. It just will not read the XAVC-I UHD file.
Can anyone here confirm if FS7 footage works with Pluraleyes or not?
Red Giant says XAVC-I, L and S are not supported codecs but I wonder if anyone has made it work.

If not, are you just syncing with a slate or timecode?

It's not problem using slate on corporate jobs but on events it's a super hassle.

Thanks!

I have successfully used pluraleyes 3.5 with xavc-I footage at 1080 23.978fps. It synced with both wav files from a dr70, and bcam clips from a c100. I imagine the issue is related to the uhd frame size, though I have no idea why.

A workaround (though clunky) would be to batch-export the clips as audio-only, and then replace/relink to the source clips in your NLE post-syncing.

Good luck, jason

i just did exactly this: syncing fs7 and a7s mk2 for sound in pluraleyes. We use a proxy workflow so I just used the 1080p fs7 prores proxies for syncing.

I still haven't gotten to PluralEyes 4 yet, but RedGiant tells me that a proper workflow in PremierePro CC2015 would be to import the footage (and this includes XAVC footage) into PPro rather than dragging files. Then send those imported files to PluralEyes 4 and all should work. But I haven't tested this yet and not certain when I'll get to it.

Hate to suggest it, but try batch converting a few files to ProRes 422 and give it a whirl. I've never had issues importing to PluralEyes and syncing with MOV files from Canon, or other footages in ProRes.

Sorry to hear you're having troubles with XAVC.

I think your culprit is XAVC-S. I know AVID hates it and Sony hasn't offered any support to that end. I solved all my syncing my A7s and FS7 issues by getting the Apollo update for my Odyssey 7Q+. Allows me to record 4 streams (only on HDMI) and uses the master camera for audio and TC. Just run the footage through Convergent Design's free app, CDProResTransfer v.2.2 as you are offloading. Then you have folders with the several streams listed as A,B,C, D camera. B,C and D cams have the A cam audio and TC thus eliminating any and ALL post sync probs.
