FS7: FS7 + 7Q and 240fps. How?

I know Convergent advertises 240fps when pairing the 7Q and the FS7.

How does this work since the max frame rate on the FS7 is 180fps? On the FS700, the frame rate is set internally to 240fps, but since the FS7 does not go that high, where would you set the 240fps frame rate on the 7Q?

As I was once told by Sony, the frame rate is as much a function of the speed of the media as the actually capability of the camera itself. So at 2K, the 7Q (as well as the AXS-R5) can achieve 240 fps because we have media that can handle the data.

Thanks Ned,

I'm sure the media can achieve 240fps, but I guess what I'm asking is where would you indicate 240fps on the FS7?

On the FS700, you go into the menu and there is an option for 2K 240fps. However, on the FS7 since the max frame rate is 180fps, it does not seem like there would be an option in the FS7 menu where you can specify 240fps.

Or maybe when you attach the XDCA Back Unit, perhaps the frame rate options change?

The camera does sense the presence of the back much as the FS700 senses the IFR+AXS and the F5/55 sense the AXS-R5. Mitch is the guy for specifics here since my camera and back should be here in a few days (CitiCards messed up authorization despite my informing them in advance of an upcoming large charge).

I guess its 240fps using RAW once the acc. unit is attached, otherwise only 180fps using internal XAVC codec.

(same as it is on F5/F55)

When the XDCA Extension Back is mounted to the camera a bunch of new menu options are opened up. That's when you can start selecting RAW output options, in this case 2K up to 240p.

Only way you will ever get 240p recording out of an FS7 is either with the Sony R5 solution or the Odyssey7Q/7Q+. It will not do it internally, and the Shogun will never be able to do it as it only has a single SATA interface, which makes it mathematically impossible to send more than 2K 120p RAW through.
