FS5: FS5 sensor damage from laser - am I SOL?

So... this happened. (image below)

Just noticed on some footage from this week and at first thought was maybe just some sensor dust... but after further research I have found the clip where this happened. (see image)

I've done some looking into this and seems to vary quite greatly and I haven't found an example quite like this.

But is there anything that can be done as to repair this or am I SOL and the only solution will be to send the sensor for replacement?

Has anyone sent their FS5 for sensor replacement? Any idea on what kind of costs I could be looking at?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

If Black Balance and/or APR don’t help and it’s sensor damage from a laser, you are probably in for a repair bill. It seems like I remember, at least, on our old CCD cameras that it stated in the manual that sensor damage from lasers was not covered.

What is an APR? I've done a search and haven't come across what it is/where to find it (just that apparently it pops up on FS7 cameras).

Has anybody seen prices for what the FS5 sensor replacement costs?

APR is automatic pixel repair, or automatic pixel restore, forget which exactly. May not be applicable, it does pop up from time to time on its own on my F55 but it can also be selected from the maintenance menu. When you run APR, you cover the lens and it searches for hot pixels and it either fixes or maps them out. I doubt it is a solution for wide area pixel destruction if that is what happened, but anything would be worth a try at this point.

I'd be willing to bet a new sensor block is going to run north of $2k. Probably the single most expensive component in any camera. Enough to give anyone indigestion.

What's the maintenance menu? I've looked through all menus and seen nothing like that, nor an APR. Also just updated to the current firmware v4.03

I tried black balance but it didn't help the issue.

I'm sorry I can't help. The F55 has a menu item called maintenance, along with others, paint, camera, media etc. I assumed the FS5 had one as well.
